We need to throw some support Italy's way, after we get everything situated here.

I'm not sure where you got this incorrect information --maybe there was some type extreme escalation this past weekend -- but Italy went into the kind of isolation similar to what we are doing here around 13-14 days ago.
I have a lot of friends and family in Rome and know that it's been 2 weeks since Rome was on stricter measures than what NY now has in place: only pharmacies, supermarkets, corner markets open, order to remain at home unless you were out for food/medicine. . . even large parks were closed.
They even had their national guard patrolling to enforce this.
There's a lot of variables but what it looks like is that the isolation measures begin to show an effect after about 2 weeks.

Rome is in Italy. Rome is not all of Italy.
SF, SD, Seattle, NYC, NOLA, etc are all on lockdown. That does not mean all of the US is on lockdown.

Rome is in Italy. Rome is not all of Italy.
Not sure what you are getting at exactly but the basic point of your post to which I responded "Italy just went into lockdown this past weekend" is very misleading given the context to which you were replying.
Roma was not an "exception". There were measures just (like the ones currently taking place across the USA in a somewhat uneven fashion) all over Italy 2 weeks ago.
Again, I emphasize for clarity, the point is that any comparisons between Italy and the US --valid or not due to other variables -- begin with the fact that similar social distancing to what we are now doing begin two weeks ago in Italy and not "this past weekend".
That's just a simple fact.
If Trump declares a national lockdown enforced by the national guard next Monday that doesn't change the fact that almost all of the USA is right now under pretty extreme lockdown already as it applies to seeing exactly what affect that has on the spread of this virus.

It's not though. Italy made the move to go to full lockdown even though some cities have shown improvement.
How are you going to use results of the whole country as proof of what a lockdown does when most of it isn't in lockdown?
Because NOLA was in what was essentially lockdown for the better part of a week doesn't mean the other +4 million persons in La were. That is what you are comparing though.

You replied to a post saying "If Italy is a model you see improvement 13 days into actions taken."
You even quoted it.
Your response was to say Italy just went into lockdown this weekend.
By that context, anyone reading assumes you mean that the slowdown in Italian cases is not directly related to the massive lockdowns of all the heavily affected areas that happened in Italy 13 days ago.
In fact, it seems those massive shutdowns are why you now have 4 regions in the north that have 85% of the cases of the entire country and the rest of Italy is not really any worse than many other than major cities across the rest of Europe.
Because they shut down those heavily affected areas 13 days ago!
And, it's in those areas shut down 2 weeks ago --which account for 85% of cases in Italy --that you are beginning to see some decrease in the exponential growth of new cases.
Again, I'm still not sure exactly what your point is.
The "results" in Italy are almost all coming from just four regions of Lombardia, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna and Piedemonte and those are the ones under drastic lockdowns for 2 weeks.
