It is true that the Marine Corps is Department of the Navy, the men's department.
Just kidding, y'all know I had to do that. Congratulations to you and to your son. It has been a while since I finished boot camp, but it instills discipline in your life and work ethic. Thankfully we have young men willing to step forward onto the yellow footprints. Semper Fi.

Congratulations, and thank him for his service. The figs downvoting this post hate freedom. And themselves.

That's cool man. I walked across those yellow footprints myself 24 years ago. Proud to have another brother.
What's his MOS?

3251. In the rear with the gear.
I'm really happy for him with that. Gives him useful skill that translates to the real world and gives him options after. He's got this whole plan to pursue a mechanical engineering degree while he's in and then use the G.I. To further it after. Smart kid
My cousin is army (airborne). He's in a concentrated medic course right now so he'll have a marketable skill when he's out.
He says "it's all well and good to be able to jump into people's homeland and turn them into jelly but it doesn't really transfer" to civilian life.
I agree. I think it's a good path.

Congrats to your son.
So, why did he join the Marines? What or Who got him to enlist?

Shaggy blonde hair, skinny, too soft spoken and slouching. Overall good kid but that drive and oomph wasn't there.

He was in ROTC but that started out more as having to pick an elective.
I had counseled him that once he graduated he was going to have to do something . That nothing wasn't an option. Get a job, get a trade, be a productive person. Military was an option but I wasn't sure if he could hack it.
Boy was I wrong.
Maybe a recruiter talked some sense into him. Maybe he heard me talk about how I was signed up to go Marine before my injury and always regretted not getting that experience.
But then one night he told us he wanted to go Marine. I gave my blessing (not that he needed it) but told him that if he thought I was hard he was in for a rude awakening.
But he did it. One of two in his whole ROTC that actually enlisted.
Anyway I'm Rambling and the program is about to start.
Go time. Semper Fi. Damn Damn proud of him.
