It feels like the nation is starting to panic

As the government continues to tighten its grip on America, I feel like citizens are starting to panic even more.
The first runs on TP were funny, albeit pathetic. It sucked when the stores started changing hours. Slowly but surely, cities and states are basically shutting down.
I sense a growing panic within the general public. I think most are not scared of the government, just the situation in general. The media continues to hammer home the rising numbers of the infected and dead. Sometimes, logic when reporting these numbers is thrown out the window.
I get a feeling some people are starting to think this thing may really be something that cripples our population and economy for a long, long time.

I disagree.
Once we mass test a huge number of people and the death rate fall, people will calm a bit. Also, people will come to realize that supply chains aren't stopping, so the runs on groceries will stop.

It wasn’t the people projecting the deaths of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of Americans?
And people buying that?
It wasn’t the crippling of the stock market out of unfounded panic?

I'm surrounded by people who are saying this is BS, and when are we getting back to normal. Guarding safe physical distance, of course.

Only 217 fatalities in US. Mind you, its early.
And more cases might actually be good news! It means the fatality rate could be very, very low in America.

I think most people dismissed it. The stock market will rebound. Now is the time to buy.
When people originally predicted large death tolls, it was laughed at. Most Americans, myself included, were pissed that our sports were taken away. Two weeks with no hoops was a long time. Now, we are looking at months.
This could end up being straight up cancellations of seasons, and delays for next year.
If that happens, we clearly have bigger issues.

Number of cases are significantly rising due to increase in testing. The media will report more will die but the mortality rate continue to drop as we continue to test and diagnose more people with this virus. We aren’t even testing everyone either, just a more limited sample at this time for those at high risk/probability of having it. They don’t show the full picture sometimes when they report to the public. All you hear is “more people are dying”. You wonder why people panic

If I could offer anything, I'd say invest in golf cart manufacturers.

Right now as US citizen you have a 42 in 1 million chance of contracting the virus. Even If you are that unlucky, you only have a 1.5% chance of dying from it. Less if your under the age of 50.

Yup. You're going to hear about the rise in "new" cases. And then they will say the same mortality rate that they've been saying even though the real rate is way below that number. They will just use the "new" cases to scare the public more.

I disagree. Most people including myself are getting sick to death of hearing about it. I can assure you people aren’t going to spend a long, long time sitting in our homes letting life and income pass us by. Especially since out of 330 million only 217 people have died so far.

I think people just want things to get back to normal. Nobody likes the possibility of losing their job and livelihood. It’s not panic, but anxiety about what the future holds.

I have noticed on Facebook a growing number of my shitlib friends begging for Trump to enact a national quarantine and force every American to let the federal government shove a q-tip down their throats.
Bizarre times.

Agreed. Just because they determine a larger amount of people have it, doesn’t automatically mean more people are going to die as a result. I said in another thread...many people have it and aren’t affected at all. Many people will never be tested because they won’t seek medical care, and even more still have probably already recovered because their symptoms were so mild it didn’t warrant a trip to the doctor in their minds.
I’m way more afraid of the government tightening its grip on my personal liberties than I am that virus. Plus, I’m about 90% sure I had it around Christmas time.

More like 1 in 100 or more.
But, also drives mortality way, way lower.

I don’t understand the “panic”, the anxiety yes but the panic is baffling. It’s an aggravating situation but what can we do about it but be self aware and conscious of others. The economy will rebound eventually but we cannot have our cake and eat it too, unfortunately. We have to stick together and help each other out instead of spreading dumbassed rumors of military intervention, the government taking our liberties, and ridiculous death tolls when higher-ups are trying their best to get a hold on this thing. I mean people are clamoring about overreaction yet they sure as shite don’t want to contract this virus! Hopefully things get moving in the right direction but it will be gradual.
