Israel absolutely has to respond to that attack. Ideally, remove Hamas from the region. Im aware to do that, an unfortunate number of civilians will die. Hamas bought that.
Its another thing to call for every living person in Gaza to be wiped out.

While there are most likely positive metrics where Reagan was the last to do it budget surplus isn't one. The last couple of years have seen historically high budget surpluses in the CA budget. I think this year was over $50 billion. I think the idea of a budget surplus in a vacuum is not conservative nor "good". It is a good thing in household or corporate accounting but a government should not run with a large surplus because they hold the people's money. Ideally, you would want a small relative surplus for emergencies but you don't want them holding massive surpluses. Not being an economist I don't know where the ideal percentage of budget to surplus is.
