Israel released its study for the Pfizer vaccine efficacy against hospitalization be age group. The link describes the data very well, and shows why the numbers were being used to present a false narrative really on the waning effects of the vaccine in Israel

quote:

In the case of vaccine efficacy vs. severe disease, it is the fact that both vaccination status and risk of severe disease are systematically higher in the older age group that makes overall efficacy numbers if estimated without stratifying by age misleading, producing a paradoxical result that the overall efficacy (67.5%) is much lower than the efficacy for either of the age groups (91.8% and 85.2%).

A maximum of 6.2 severe cases per 100,000 for anyone under 40 and unvaccinated but yeah we need to vaxxx everyone over 12

Anyone who likes numbers and data knew with Israel it was very lazy reporting on the data to try and pull vaccine efficacy. Without stratification it was 100% useless

For the severe cases per 100k metric, is the 100k just people in general or people who tested positive for COVID?

So if you are under 50 and not vaxxed, there's about a .025% chance you have a "severe case?"

But the messaging is if you aren't vaccinated you are committing suicide

That's actually super interesting how when you stratify by age, both groups actual have a significantly higher efficacy rate than looking at the entire population. Statistics are weird man. Good news though, keep sharing stuff like this

Israel was such a statistical outlier, it was hard to wrap the mind around.

Another way to say this

During a peak surges where infection was sky high, that would mean roughly 100 to 132 (if all got infected) new hospital admits a day in Louisiana under the age of 40 if they were all unvaxxed

If vaxxed, it would mean roughly 4 new hospital admits a day in Louisiana under the age of 40 if every single under 40 got infected

You should be vaccinated if you’re old or fat but other than that getting vaccinated is like buying volcano insurance and living in Florida.

That jump from the 40s to the 50s is really something though.

I guess our bodies really start wearing down in our 50s. Or people tend to let themselves go.

That’s not a lot. You know how many people live in Louisiana? People have lost all concept of reality when they hear Covid stats.

This has been the biggest failure by those in charge. They've pushed fear that is completely unjustified to try to get compliance. Now they must deal with a sizeable portion of society that doesn't trust anything they say, and frankly I don't blame anyone that doesn't trust them.

Based on that chart and my age the chances of me contracting a "severe case" (not death) is 0.0282%. Said another way, I have a 99.9718% chance of not getting a sever case.

This does not take into account good health, lack of comorbidities and antibodies from previous COVID infection...all which substantially reduces the risk of a sever case of COVID.

I'm still not convinced the vaccine is the proper route for people like me in the low risk groups.

But here we are...people trying to force medicine on people that otherwise don't need it.

The poster above who just gave us the newsweek link is doing the same thing, just from the other side.

Does "severe cases" mean hospitalized? I didn't read the whole thing.
