I don't know. Perhaps. Obama has blamed National Intelligence Director Gen. James Clapper for the failure to foresee the rise of ISIS. However, it's pretty clear a lot of people fricked up. The President does not strike me as the most engaged person in the world.

Well, we've been launching plenty of airstrikes against ISIS. They're probably trying to goad the Brits as well. They launched their first strikes three days ago. We've been promised a victory we cannot achieve, in two countries we cannot control, with allies we cannot trust, who are fighting a religious civil war we cannot understand. But hey, bombs away!

I almost feel at this point that we need to go into the Middle East like the Mongols did and just decimate the population and take over governance. They are completely incapable.

I've always been more of an isolationist, but at this point, that is the only real answer. It'll never happen though. We're too pussy now. I mean shite, we gave the taliban a bunch of their prisoners in that exchange, and then let them walk away. I mean, WTF? We should have said thank you, and then killed them, drank their blood and said "Don't frick with us."

That wasn't from the NYTimes, it's from a conservative watchdog group. And Obama is doing what most US Presidents have done - relied on a daily written memo as opposed to an oral briefing. Reagan missed something like 99% of his intelligence briefings.
