Just got back from Nashville where I was visiting my S/O while she's interning at the VA. Friend of mine asked what I got her for V-Day, I replied back with "a $340 round trip airfare" to which he responded "yeah but anything else"
Nah
I hate it every year but I hate the social media singles complaining about it even more.

I didn't get the girl anything for v-day, first one together. Sorta testing the waters, she hasn't murdered me yet or said anything so I think I'm good

She probably wrote a 600 word essay into her diary questioning this relationship. If her friends look at you and scowl, it didn't go over well.

Valentine's day is the day where beta males spend a lot of money and do stupid cheesy stuff to get laid and their materialistic girlfriends use it to one up to eachother to make their pathetic lives a little better.

You should care for your wife every day of the year and not just on some faggotty made up holiday like valentine's day.

make single people feel like shite

I'm single. Doesn't make me feel like shite. I use the day to remind myself to tell the special people in my life I love them.

You can get upset at just about anything. I choose not to live that way. If you don't like Valentine's Day, then don't celebrate it. It's really not that big a deal.

Reading your post, I think I understand why you're single.

We don't really celebrate Valentine's Day for a few reason - we are usually not in the same place, we already go to dinner several times per week, and neither of us like chocolate. That said, I never really understood people hating Valentine's Day.

Some people never dine out, so it's a big deal for them to get out of the house just them two. Nothing wrong with that. I've been working in NYC, and it was pretty adorable yesterday afternoon to see so many man walking through the financial dist. with big bouquets of roses to take home.

Flowers, spa day, chocolate from Belgium and dinner at some new restaurant that was garbage (expensive garbage).

But its just a tax to keep peace in the valley. From a relationship standpoint i frick up about 250 days out of 365 so its a day wherein she gets everything she wants.

Worth it.

Money I spent on VDay: $0

Still got laid

Didn't go out like a beta

Fiance still has respect for me

I'll randomly send her some flowers to her work a month or so from now because my game is tight. She'll appreciate it and it will mean more because I'm not a pussy who does corny shite on a corny day because a commercial told me to.

Maybe, more likely you will be here in 3 years asking where it all went wrong.

Yes, the reason the divorce rate is 50% is because dudes aren't making enough of a fuss about Valentine's Day. That's the problem.

it originally started as a way for me to gauge materialism in the girl by seeing just how much she wanted an engagement ring, b/c i think they're stupid, a waste of money, and a symbol of materialism and possibly having to keep up with the Jonses (no pun intended)

it eventually morphed into a more civil "would you accept an engagement ring with a manufactured (aka cheap, but real) diamond?"

Vday is kind of like that. on one hand, if she is super duper into it and demanding about it, we'll never last b/c that's just not how i roll. not only is it materialistic but it's also got a lot of that showy/competition that so many people love to get into (i'm 100% against this). applies perfectly to the engagement ring issue

on the other hand, if you treat your partner well consistently, there is no need for this symbolic day of showing love/affection. you kind of fail at being a partner if you have to rely on these days to bring that out of you. less direct comparison to the engagement ring, but deeper down it's on the same level as why i think rings are stupid

Good point and I have done much better from a consistency standpoint this second time around but...

I mostly do what I want when I want so its a good opportunity. Like I said its a relationship tax for us flawed males.

For the most part. But this also applies to women who grew up with money and are used to nice things. They will want a nice ring because it's what they know.

Ohh. Pretty interesting. I agree with a good bit of that. I never understood actively "hating" Valentine's Day or anything, but I do admit that people (women, really) who make it into a big deal are usually a specific type of insufferable person.

I think there's no problem with deciding to wear red or wearing a cute heart-printed shirt to the office because it's Valentine's Day. Yesterday, we grabbed heart-shaped pink donuts while out getting coffee before our meeting. Things like that are just cute little ways to make your Tuesday less mundane. But expecting actual GIFTS seems a bit crazy.

As for engagement rings, I think the idea behind a ring on your finger is nice as far as there being a physical reminder/message about your relationship status. I've never really dreamed of what my engagement ring would look like, but I have certainly imagined being able to hold up my hand and show I'm taken. Can't really explain it, but it seems fun. That said, I couldn't care less if the diamond was lab created or not.. and I actually think Moissanite is more beautiful than diamonds.
