Wearing a ring doesn't stop a guy from trying to sleep with a girl

I wasn't really referring to that. I was referring to myself and my own joy I think I'd get from having a physical marker of my relationship (hypothetically, of course - I am not engaged anytime soon!).

I actually love the thin gold band some women are doing lately.

i wasn't calling anyone out and nobody is perfect (plus i'm obviously speaking from a hypothetical perspective, personally). i just thought it was a balance before i got th e"oh you're just cheap" or some other simpleminded, bullshite response from someone

deep down it is what i believe, though...at least as a goal

So, if I want to wear my grandmother's ring that is sparkly and expensive, but a family heirloom, am I material or sentimental?

We don't really discuss what kind of engagement ring I want because that's not happening anytime super soon. At the rate we think things are going, we might actually get to get married around our 10-year "anniversary" ( ), which is cute in the corniest of ways.

But yeah, he knows I'd be happy with all kinds of different options. He is kinda a snob though. He makes fun of some of the "cheaper" things I do (like order eye-glasses online for $30), so I could see him using the family jeweler and getting something absurd.

Are most girls honestly that demanding during valentine's day? i went to whole foods and trader's yesterday for groceries, and it looked like 98% of people were buying cheap flowers at both plus I'm sure a gimmick dinner somewhere. that doesn't seem too bad

Not in my experience. Like I said in a post above, I think the people who get serious about valentine's day and expect lavish gifts are probably kinda shitty people in the first place.

A friend of mine is super into it... She also is the most materialistic human being I know.

Both. We've already hit the "late" mark on his side. He'll be 35 next month. But.. We have some financial goals we want to reach. Basically, we plan to be OT ballas

We still live apart and are semi-long distance due to work too. We just love our damn freedom, not that either one of us is smothering at all.

I agree with you, consistency is the better, preferred method. And like a good dog I have learned to be more consistent but it does take effort.

To be fair, Valentine's Day isn't really important until a woman starts seeing all the unnecessary shite other women (who are in relatively new relationships still) are getting around lunchtime - then it becomes a last minute scramble to buy flowers, candy, and some mediocrely cheap jewelry then rush to a restaurant because now all of a sudden they see what Becky has and now they feel like they are missing out...

For sure. I'm with ya. I don't hate on corny Valentine's stuff, but that's about as far as I'll go. I almost ordered a heart shaped pizza last night for myself. Pathetic, maybe.
