My neighbor had the same trees and this was an offspring. It is close to his trees so it looked, from a distance, like it was all his trees. Also there is a big shrub growing in front of the tree so I couldn't tell it was on my property. I could have just clipped this MF'er a couple of years ago.

I just had two live oaks trimmed for $1,400. I felt like that was a great deal. The first estimate was closer to $4,000.

I have crop insurance on soybeans, corn and cotton and tree farms have the same.

how big are the trees? you can rent a Stihl 16 ft pole saw for $100 and use it all weekend. I am able to burn in my backyard so disposal is not an issue. I understand most people don't have that opportunity. You could also look into renting a chipper/shredder to turn all the fallen limbs into mulch.

As said, hauling off and stump grinding is a lot of the cost. You can get them to fell the trees and cut them into 4-8 ft sections for you to dispose of yourself for probably half that cost.

pretty good price actually, normally its between $800-$1200 for each tree depending on the size of it. you are getting a great price as a volume discount since you have so many trees. most likely he is throwing in one of those trees for free and isnt even charging for it 
they are even worse then the old adage of plumbers getting rich, tree guys make plumbers look like fast food workers.
to be fair, a good portion goes to hauling it off and grinding stumps down, and the workers get "really" good wages, so he isnt making as big of a killing as it seems but he is making bank for sure

He was a fully insured professional, actually. That said, I didn't read far enough into this thread, apparently. The OP seems to have had much larger trees trimmed than I did. We didn't need a boom lift for the work.
My bad.
EDIT: I should also add that he was already on site with his equipment to cut down a larger poplar tree, so that had a lot to do with it, too.

They pay some of the highest liability insurance rates and Workers Compensation rates, so it's not totally outrageous.

Stump grinders charge like $30-100 per stump. At $100 per, that works out to over 46 stumps per day.

yeah tree removal is outrageously expensive, because it requires expertise, specialty equipment and insurance if things go wrong.
I mean if you want to hire an expert that is. Just had 4 trees trimmed , not removed, but trimmed at one of my rental houses and it was $1K. Guy had to bring in a boom truck to reach the tops and hauled off at least 10 loads of shite. Worth every penny, my time is better spent elsewhere.

If there aren't any power lines and there aren't any homes, sheds, etc within that 60 ft area in the obvious direction it will fall....it will cost you the price of a chainsaw.
