Is travel soccer worse then travel "ball"?

Unfortunately for both sports, the recreational level has become a joke. I know in Lafayette, rec soccer doesn't even pretend to be competitive. At least baseball has Little League which appears to remain competitive. If your kid wants to play competitive soccer, the only real option around here is to play club level.

Travel ball is definitely not something my family would enjoy doing but the obsession with how other people spend their lives is pretty odd.

Tell me about it. This youth doesn't have means to play premier competitive. And he can't play rec bc too many people. So I have to train him. He didn't make school team , but here's hope.

This is true. Back in the day rec soccer stopped at under 10 where I grew up. We HAD to TRAVEL to play a game

why do I feel that the majority who incessantly discuss "travel ball" are just mad cuz their kids suck. I mean, why else would you care unless you are jaded as frick?

That's how it seems to be here, but it seems club soccer is the reason for that. The big clubs here have 2 or 3 teams for each age group based on ability. The third team is really just a glorified rec team, but the parents get to say their kid plays club soccer, and the clubs get to charge them a ridiculous fee for that privilege.

I referee "travel" soccer. The parents are insufferable, so insufferable in fact that Georgia Soccer instituted a rule that if a spectator (parent) complains about a referee call/non-call, they are to be immediately ejected from the park. They've run too many young officials out of the sport.
Serious question for the travel ball parents. When you go to tournaments, do you have enough umpires to staff all the games? I assume you need 2 umpires per game. We need 3 referees per soccer match and tournaments in the Atlanta area have a very hard time finding enough officials for a weekend event. It's just not worth the hassle anymore because of the parents.

When I was a kid, there were two teams for most age groups (11+) to play club in Lafayette. Literally everybody else played rec. Club teams were clearly better but the rec level remained competitive. Now in Lafayette we have CSC, Dynamo Juniors, and LFC. CSC has different levels within each age group as well, so there will be "academy" level and then normal club level. I believe Dynamo has the same thing. So you're looking at 5 club teams per each age group.
When it comes to recreational soccer at Moore Park/Youngsville, they're just getting parents to go out and supervise during games and a lot of teams don't even practice.

Living in Austin, we really only travel to Houston and San Antonio. My kid plays select in Austin for Lonestar and while expensive, the coaching and structure of the club is what I like to think I'm paying for.

It’s always the short, fat non athletic, could never compete in a sport in their lives that start these threads.

Travel soccer, or club tournament ball, was fun, and my son gained a great deal of confidence from the experiences. He retired from tournament ball after winning the U13 state cup, and now he just plays in regional leagues. It was a good run though.
ETA: Crazy to think that those 35 metals represent 140 competitive games. Those are just the tournaments they placed 1, 2 in, so there were many more, not including rec soccer. Literally hundreds of games.
