This is bigger than MLK. I’d say JFK was the last one bigger

I do think you could make a very straight faced argument for this being comparable to RFK. Many big voices on the right expressed the view that Kirk would one day achieve high political office. Like RFK, he had an enthusiastic and devoted niche following (niche, but still large) especially among young people of a given ideological lean. Like RFK, among those, he had massive influence on how they see not only politics, but faith, family, the world, etc. A lot of aspirational ideology.
Obviously he didn't have the familial connection like RFK, but he was loved by Trump and in the President's circle.

Did he ever express an interest in running for office?

No idea, TBH. I was never a Kirk aficionado or TPUSA guy. But he certainly had been maturing as a person and influencer in recent years, and that was accompanied by more genuine connections to Trump and other prominent Rs (as opposed to getting pats on the head and respect as good soldier/influencer).
And many have come out with comments tonight about their fervent belief that a run for high office would have been inevitable, etc.

Unless you consider John Lennon a political activist.
Otherwise, yes.
Otherwise, yes.

I'll throw in Alan Berg. Might not be the most high profile but they got a lot of mileage out of it.

No one had nearly instantaneous footage of MLK being assassinated. The world just watched Charlie Kirk die in superb video quality. This is 100% bigger than MLK.
