Never been a Viking who could not swim.

Threw them in the water at that age, if they didnt swim.....they were not meant to be a Viking.

People are such emotional pussies nowadays.

As people have pointed out, it's a lifesaving lesson. If that kid ever falls in a pool, he'll live.

Little hard to watch as a parent but that child is fine and will be better off in the future.

Our instinct as a parent is to protect that often hurts the overall development of the child.

You are a dumb frick. My siblings and I all got this treatment. We never drowned as kids because we were taught super early how to swim.

We didn’t and learned how to swim and didn’t drown. See how that works.

Even more importantly, my parents made sure I wasn’t in the water by myself until I was able to freely swim.

Your original reaction to this is very weak, very gay, very emotional. Now you’re crying about social media. Time to step back before your balls complete their transformation into ovaries

Sorry, I didn’t realize that your life revolves around likes. Carry on.

My mom did this to me when I was four. It's one of our treasured family stories.

Once I was tired of paddling around in the shallow end, I asked my mom to let me go in the deep end. She walked me out to the end of the diving board of the hotel pool with my two older brothers in the water. She then picked me up and dropped me in.

The ladies around the pool were angry with her, which never bothered my mom at all. They all shut up when I got to the ladder, got myself out, and said, "Do it again, Mommy, do it again."

If this was the first time the toddler was ever in the water, or if the instructor had turned her back on the kid, then that's a problem. But, this appears to be well handled and fine by me.

My niece and nephew did this training when they were younger. Makes sense when they’re always around water

As someone who had a family member drown at a birthday party and then be brought back (presumably possessed by an evil native spirit like in Pet Semetary), this is how he should have been taught.

It looks brutal, but it’s triggering an instinct we need.

That’s teaching a young child water survival and I doubt that person is a parent. Any small child that has a pool at their home or is around a pool regularly should 100% do this…..all three of mine have. Also I’ve found when it does come time for actual swimming lessons they swim very quickly. I’ve got 3 and 4 yr old that swim like fish and they took the infant survival course 2 years in a row.

That's how I learned to swim. I was probably four or five at the time when I got chucked into the drink.

It doesn’t seem like the kid enjoys it that much, but who knows, maybe he will be the next Michael Phelps with this kind of training.
