Why would we pronounce it just like fort when that's already a word?

People that don't have much to do sit around and try to come up with new pronunciations of words which is irritating.

Have you ever heard someone say they have the "gouch" instead of "gout"?

How about cancer of the "sausages" rather than "esophagus"?

Or "Barbarian" cream rather than "Bavarian" cream?

Or Baton "Rudge" rather than Baton "Roosh"......

Not the same as OP. Those are two different words.

It's been in the dictionary since MAY 22, 2014

A well-known American dictionary, Merriam-Webster, has announced more than 150 new words and definitions for 2014, including the Vietnamese word “Pho”.

“Pho” refers to traditional Vietnamese soup made of beef or chicken. Its addition to the dictionary is a reflection of the popularity of the dish amongst Americans.

According to Oxford languages, the leading worldwide publisher of English dictionaries, it's flak-sid

quote:

The word “flaccid” (meaning soft or weak) has two pronunciations in standard dictionaries. Some list FLAS-id first and others FLAK-sid, but both are considered standard English today.

Update your info.

Yes I am aware that homophones exist. We have enough as it is, why have unnecessary ones when there is an extremely commonly accepted alternate pronunciation that actually makes use of the e at the end?

I'll offer "tinnitus".

Always thought it was pronounced tin-EYE-tuss.

Got diagnosed with that shite and found out it's TI-nuh-tus.

Can't say it without sounding like a douche.

It is unbelievable how many talking heads on television say "nuculer" instead of nuclear.
