Why can’t you ride by yourself? I’ve never understood this group exercise concept. Cardio is a solitary endeavor.

Someone has to get the license plate # of the baw that runs them off the road. So they use the buddy system.

Traffic on River Rd is nearly non-existent on weekends. It really is (relatively) safe to ride on weekends out there.

It's really not and there's a bike trail literally above it on the levee but the 150 lb hardos don't want to have to make any loops or deal with peasants walking so they get in the middle of traffic where's its a 55 mph zone obeying no traffic laws.

Oh okay. I guess I’ll take your word for it over my own experience over the past ten years.

There are minimal sections of paved levee in/around Baton Rouge. Riding up there is risky with walkers/joggers who have headphones on and are very unpredictable.

But it sounds like you’re one of the irrational cyclist haters, so I’m likely wasting my time typing this.

Hope the OP learns to ride safely and follow the traffic laws.

Exercise outside? Like in Baton Rouge, like on bikes no less?

You must be not be familiar with the BR. We loath sidewalks, and bikes are for weirdos around the LSU lakes, for kids and the poors.

Yeah, but being fat, bald and an ugly wife is a minimum requirement.

To answer your question specifically, there is a group that meets in the overflow lot at La’Burge and leaves around 8am on Saturday morning. Some get there earlier and do about 20 extra miles at 7am. The speed is usually around 22mph avg for the whole group, bu if you stay in the back of the Peloton you’re exerting minimal effort to maintain to necessary speed bc of drafting in the back. It’s usually 2.5-3 hrs.
There’s another ride that starts in the parking lot of CC’s/Walk-Ons on Burbank at 8am Sunday morning and lasts for 2 hours. It’s usually a slightly easier group than the Saturday morning group.

Perfect, answers my question. Am I going to get laughed out of the parking lot if I'm not riding an s-works venge with dura-ace or is there a place there for the poor, new cyclists?

Nah man, any road bike is good. Like I said, the peloton is usually large enough that you can just stay on the back and hang for a few hours. Everyone is pretty nice and welcoming.

There are those guys out there (dentists and such).

But I started riding in Baton Rouge on an early 90s steel Diamondback with downtube shifters. This was in 2007. If you ride safely, and take pointers from more experienced riders (even if it’s just doing as they do), you’ll fit right in.
