Is there a service industry more useless than realtors?

I can’t understand why anyone would pay these folks 6% of your sale/buy.
At most, they should be charging a flat $2K-$3K for their paperwork services.
They have also structured their industry to look exactly like a pyramid scheme.
FSBO is the way to go.

How much did they take you for?

I'm in the process of FSBO with my house. Paid a realtor 1k for the contract. Couldn't be any easier. I had a contract on my house before it was even ready to sell. Close in 3 weeks.

I paid a realtor 2.5% who brought me a buyer last fall. He was fine with it. Showed my house once, the last of four they looked at that day, emailed me an offer the next morning, two emails later, we had an agreement.
Easy for me, easy for him.
Easy for me, easy for him.

In this market, when houses are selling in 24-48 hours, I'm sure this is being negotiated a lot.

I’m happy I had one when I bought my first house. I had no idea wtf I was doing

Houses is my area are selling in 48 hours with multiple offers. I don't see any value in using a realtor at all.

It all depends on how quickly you need to buy or sell.
I used FSBO to sell a house in 2011 and it was relatively easy. If I was purchasing I'd use an agent though.

I put on FB that I was going to be selling my house soon if anyone was interested let me know. A woman messaged me and asked to see it. I showed it to her a day later and had it under contract that same day.

Travel agent? Idk, maybe.

I've used realtors to buy that gave me really good advice about getting the best deal.

Really depends on if you know the market and what your house should be listed for or not

Astrology.
I don't need this industry; I'm perfectly capable of using a telescope to look at the planets (mandatory Uranus reference included) and figure exactly how they are making next week's romance interest a psycho woman. It's simple everyday science. Textbook redundant industry.
