It’s kinda like feeding the animals in front of a “Do Not Feed The Animals” sign

They aren't in a crosswalk, so I'd assume you can now them over

They’ve started coming up to my truck and tapping on my window asking for money. Great way to get shot if you ask me. Pisses me off. I can’t even pump gas or walk into a Walgreens without a bum there asking for money.

maybe they could write tickets to people who are giving the bums money on the side of the road. If there isn't a law to allow for it, that is one I could get behind. Anyone else got any possible solutions?

Police can, and should, cite both the bum and the idiot sitting there handing him money for Impeding Traffic Flow. There is nothing worse than someone holding up morning traffic to hand some drug addict a dollar (or staring down at their phone texting) when the light is green. Worst is when they hurry up and make the light and you get stuck at the red. That should be a Death Penalty enhancement.

Had one show me a parking spot for a road side meter for the Astros Game. Instead of paying $20 I paid $1 thanks to him, had $4 in my hand and handed him $3. Dude begged for the extra $1 so I gave him that too, had to give him props for the extra effort.

So you want a law that says when and who you can give money to? That seems a bit of over-reach, don't you think.

Seems like the easiest way to stop people from begging on the streets for drug money. ACLU has made it to where the cops can’t do anything to stop it but if you cut off the source you solve the problem. I bet people wouldn’t be handing over money if you could get a $400 ticket for doing so.

Let me get this straight, you are blaming the ACLU that there isn't a law that bars people from donating money to whom they see fit? You cam disagree with them giving the homeless money all you want, but this is one of the most idiotic takes I've ever read on this site.

And that's saying something.

Also, just to piss you off more, income from pandering by bums is exempt from income tax so they aren't even evading taxes on that money.

Nope not blaming ACLU for the law I purposed not being in place. You clearly can't read. The ACLU prevents cops from being able to actively enforce laws that would prevent such behavior. I was saying this should be a law put in place in attempt to cut down on the number of beggars on the streets and drug users on every corner.

A store in San Diego got in trouble for selling these. But they are a problem. And they are expensive to keep up with.

I've seen signs that say it is illegal to ask for money from here to the corner before.

The issue is, what's the consequence? A fine? Lol, they won't pay it. So jail? Sweet free hot and a cot.

Exactly that's why I was saying if you punish the people giving it to them it could possibly stop the issue.

Tis true. They aren't providing any service, so it is a gift.

Now... if they wash your window at a stoplight and you give them $1, I could argue that is income. However, they probably are under the filing threshhold anyways.

If giving money to political campaigns is protected free speech, I'm certain that giving money to bums would be considered protected free speech as well.

Huh. Something is bad in the O-T's favorite state?

I tell people all the time. The only times I have been legit concerned about dealing with a homeless person, were in Houston and surrounding areas. They are very, very aggressive there, especially at gas stations.

Some bum once said to me " you got any money mayne? I'm tryna get fricked up today" I appreciated the honesty and gave him a dollar. Because really, at the end of the day, ain't we all just tryna get fricked up?

I've noticed the same.

Was so nice having a bum free BR for 3-4 weeks but now they're back.

Did they all go on vacation together?

Winston-Salem requires panhandlers to get a permit. The permit is free and there is a background check that goes back two years. I'm pretty sure the permits are in the form of lanyards. If you don't have a permit you get hassled by the cops. I guess most people move on to another town if they don't/can't follow the procedure.
