Golf and other individual sports are more cut and dried. You still have a “team” but less politics and nutty parents.

This problem is somewhat a function of people having one prince in the home, instead of 3 or 4 paupers where you just didn’t have time to spoil and helicopter all of them.

Golf and tennis.

Dude, golf and tennis parents can be insane. My kid plays both in local/regional leagues and I've seen parents try to get other kids DQ'ed in golf for ridiculous things.

One time a dad tried to get a kid playing with my son's group DQ'ed for accidentally having 15 clubs.

They are 7 years old. The kid actually won their age flight and the a-hole's son was in second. So pitiful. Like a 15th club, which he didn't use, helped a 7 year old beat your kid by 8 strokes.

Tennis parents will yell and shite on the sidelines and try to coach constantly. They are like rich people travel ball parents. Some of them are grooming their kids to go to tennis academies eventually. Feel terrible for these kids, just let them have fun.

Thank you.

They're wackos.

ETA:

I've got a decent tennis parent story too. My same kid as the golf story above, but he was in a tournament and there was a dispute over a line call in the adjacent court. A dad thought his kid's opponent hit it out and they missed the call. He ran onto the court screaming and had to be kicked out of the facility.

Again, we're talking like 7-8 year olds.

Some kids want to be the best when they get to school ball, some kids want to be starters, some kids just want to make the team, some kids don’t want to be anywhere around the team...takes all types.

My son wants to be a varsity starter his freshman year, in 3 sports, and the best on the team soon after. I think those goals are achievable...it’s not like he’s trying to make the US National team, be a top draft pick, or run in the Olympics. It’s school sports, so what?

exactly. The OT lately has been the worst with making fun of kids wanting to be better and play at a high level.

Yep. My favorite are the ones that tell the line judges they’re wrong.

I am all for my kids wanting to be great at athletics. shite, I love it. I'll support them however they need me.

However, parents can be a real problem. Pushing kids that aren't interested or burning them out on things they actually were interested in. Getting actually mad at them for not succeeding instead of being supportive. It's pretty fricking pitiful and I think leads to some issues later in life.

I have more than you can imagine

Here is an appetizer

Indoor facility, in memphis. Viewing facility is elevated about 15 feet and covered by glass. Two parents got in a fight and crashed through the glass, onto the court their kids were playing on

Yeah and often these line judges are like local college volunteers or some shite.

And what lesson does that teach? Wrong calls happen even in professional sports. Arguing won't change it, move on and get over it.

most of the parents at my 8 year olds soccer practice don't even get out of their vehicle

haven't had any bad parents in soccer yet, although I'm sure its coming as she ages and the games get more competitive

What exactly would golf parents have to be insane about? Who would they yell at? The greens for being too fast?

Not directed at salmon but to the poster who mentioned golf parents being psycho

People, and therefore parents, ruin everything. People by and large suck balls. There is no place you can go, a kid’s sporting event, the office, a bar, where you won’t run into someone who is a complete c.unt. That’s why friendships should be nurtured and kept up with. Finding people you like is hard. They’re needles in haystacks. When you’re not with friends and are surrounded by others, either fake it or leave their presence.

the amount of money you spent on one kid could put all of your kids through trade school.

And they won't have grown up a douche turd that is completely and totally average, utterley unremarkable at baseball like you.

See I was smart and worked my way through college and got my engineering degree so I can afford both travel ball and education at the same time. but have fun paying for trade school.

A) I was prolly worse than totally average, but i did play and i did start. Sorry you couldnt make the team

B) why would i give a frick if they are average? I specifically said it not about how good they are. its about having fun and learning the things i talked about.

sorry you cant afford travel ball and things like it. should have paid attention in school when the teachers told you to.

lacrosse and hockey parent checking in .... and nope to those sports. Moms who are glass bangers at games (the bang on the glass when little johnny is on the ice/floor - yelling shoot the ball/puck or hit him).
Once little johnny makes a travel team or hockey or a showcase lax team (means mom/dad paid thousands for johnny to go to a few tournys a yr where there maybe NCAA coaches...) it gets worse
