My local massage parlor is overly friendly. All I want is massage and they keep wanting to give me extra massage.

That might be the dumbest reason ever to not go to a store.

Not really

But there is a coffee shop here known for being "almost uncomfortably friendly." I'd call it flamboyantly friendly. I still go there, but I can definitely see people who are introverts or just in a more serious mood not enjoying it.

Most Ace Hardwares.

I get it, the old guys want to be helpful and it’s clearly company policy to try, but I don’t need help wandering around a hardware store.

Dutch Bros coffee is like this. Way too much small talk (Did you have a great morning? What are you doing today?) when I’m just trying to get a cup of coffee and I don’t know you.

They have terrible coffee anyway, so two solid reasons to avoid.

Dutch Bros. Their whole “be interested in the customer” schtick annoys the shite out of me. Some 17 year old kid trying to overly engage and figure out my life story while I wait on a butter moocha just let me be man.

Sometimes folks just take it too far. Acting like you know me because you got my name when I ordered is annoying. Starting small talk conversations is not what I need from the person taking my money. Sometimes they are just bring overly effusive to the point of being obnoxious.

Yes, I am a dick, now get off my lawn!!

You sound like a loser.

I like when the hostess knows my name and the waitress remembers my drink order from previous visits.

Office Depot

Needed some pens while on the road, they were right there. Walk in and they ask if I need help. "Nope, just grabbing some pens." Dude gets on a walkie talkie and describes me and says, "guy in blue shirt, jeans, just getting pens, declined help." Someone else came up to me while looking at pens...same thing.

Went back to a different location months later and same procedure.

It was just weird

I don’t like a barber that’s too chatty. I don’t want small talk while I’m getting my haircut

Back in the early 90's I used to work at The Gap. My job was to stand in the front of the store and greet all the customers walking in and let them know if they had questions or needed help. I was supposed to be all energetic and enthusiastic (you know, for $5 an hour).

Got fired the month after b/c I was told that I did not smile enough.

My decision to go to a business depends on one thing. Getting what I need/want for the cheapest price as possible. If one place is a great place to shop and sells the item I want/need to buy for $15 and a place where workers are either too nice or "rude" and they sell it for $12.00 if both are in reasonable distance I will go to the place that sells it for $12.00. I truly don't care if people are over friendly or rude.

I think there are sit-down places that can be overbearing.
