Probably not, but it still doesn’t make it any less tragic IMO.

100% agree

when you are at a point when selling the one thing you dont have to give away for pennies on the dollar you probably arent in a good place.

Here is what I’ve learned over a lifetime; Sexuality is a GIFT we are given. If we use our sexuality correctly, in a non exploitative way, in a loving way, it gives our life depth, meaning and SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO with someone we love and or care for.

When we treat it otherwise, it wrecks us because it leaves us feeling empty and unfulfilled and unsatiated. Long term, it HAS to be meaningful or we can fall into despair, especially if the rest of our lives are shite. With porn, when you make it purely transactional and turn yourself into a commodity, you have to be really grounded( not likely ) to not destroy yourself. All of this being particularly true for women.

I’ve never heard of anyone who has paid money for porn and I spent 20 years in oil and gas where NSFW was most definitely not a thing and spending half a day talking about fleshlights was almost normal. Who are these people?

I’ve always wondered what happens to a pornstar or even your average stripper after they become 35ish. Even if they made a lot of money, it’s not like they saved, invested, or had any sound financial advice. They’ve also ruined all their future opportunities with previous decisions.

Where do they go from there? Marry some simp or old rich guy?

How bad off do you gotta be to have sex with strangers for money?

So when I was in college, I actually wrote a paper for a class concerning this very phenomenon. I sat down and interviewed escorts in the Atlanta area (no, I did not sleep with them) and asked them what the reasoning behind their thinking was. More often than not these were girls who were putting themselves through nursing school, medical school, or were just doing it until they could figure out what they wanted to do with the rest of their lives. Granted, the vast majority of the girls I interviewed were what you would consider "high end" prostitutes. I'm sure the streetwalkers and Craigs List prostitutes have an altogether different reason for doing what they do.

Women selling sex is called the oldest profession for a reason. Men are wired to want it, and women are wired to know how to use their bodies as currency when they have nothing else to offer.

The porn industry is just the use of technology to provide it to people who can't or won't go through the actual act of paying for a prostitute. But even before movie tech, there were magazines, books, and even cartoons of it.

It's not "modern" and it spans every society.

Is it wrong? Hell, I don't know. I wouldn't want a daughter of mine to do it. But yet I do partake. And that's someone's daughter.

I think humans are wired to connect sex and love to a certain extent, but also so have primal urges that have nothing to do with love and everything to do with lust. I love my wife dearly. But watching the Olympic women's beach volleyball matches gets me pretty lustful. How can one look at those gorgeous, fit, barely dressed women and not feel something?

So porn pays women and men to do things that we can't bring ourselves to do, and we live vicariously through them. But we then look down on them for doing it.

There's no good answer here I guess. Except maybe finding a mate that keeps you so sexually satisfied that you don't have the energy or urges to look elsewhere. But that's a pretty tough ask for most couples. For lots of reasons.

And look at societies that really repress sexuality. Like the muslim cultures. The dudes end up fricking livestock or raping little boys and girls. If they could whack off to porn would they be less inclined to rape? I don't know.

Like I said, I don't think there's a good answer.

I don’t think porn is inherently bad but some of the stuff on the extreme and degrading side can’t be healthy to participate in or view.

You're telling me that woman that chose to be degraded and treated like an animal on camera for the whole world to see realized later in life how big of a mistake that was and kill themselves? Say it ain't so!
