It has the potential to rival the California region due to its weather, beach access, and fertile grounds, but the people are holding it back. Yes, there are great people in the SE, but the majority are lazy, drug dependent leaches. The Irish and African descendant people have been the slowest to progress in our country.

Depends on your values at the end of the day.
But there's also cleanliness, safety, infrastructure, education, growth and opportunity (job/real estate), etc. And when it comes to a lot of metrics like that the Southeast is sorely lacking.

I live here and haven't noticed anything burdensome. The gun laws in Washington allow for open carry without a permit. I just think people don't know what they frick they are talking about when it comes to the NW.

I've lived in every section of the US and they all have their pros and cons. I like the NW the best overall but my wife has never lived there.
My plan in about 5 years is to sell my small business and we will travel all over in a 5th wheel while my wife takes travel nursing assignments. When we find a place we like the best, we will buy another house.

That's the west coast in general. There's the image most white southerners have in their minds of what the west coast must be like, then there's what it is actually like, and the two couldn't be more different.
But back to the OP: the southeast is generally the shittiest and most depressing part of the country by far

Anyone here volunteer coach youth sports? Before I moved to Colorado I did for 10 years or so in a southern red state. Had a blast. But, the coach was responsible for everything from opening the gym, sweeping the floor, and measuring sizes for unis. Not unusual I imagine for most youth sport coaches.
I sign up to volunteer coach in my new town in Colorado. The organization is unreal. All coaches are certified, background check, trained in concussion training/protocol, etc.
We have a very impressive recreation facility. It has indoor rock climbing for example. For player evaluations, there is a staff of about 10. They rank the kids on individual skills to insure even teams as possible. Another area sells and sizes the kids for jerseys. Parents even attend training class before the season.
Coaches, get this. At every practice, at either the rec facility or a nice middle school or elementary gym, there is an official that is there to supply you with a whole rack of balls, practice pennys, cones, ice for bruises, etc. They are responsible for all that. I was floored.

The county-by-county map of the election results show most of Washington and Oregon as red with the blue counties right on the "beach" as it were.
