It's probably the worst, but that doesn't mean that there aren't great pockets within it.
I feel like the southwest or northwest are probably the best in regards to quality of life.

Willamette (sp?) valley is what turns Oregon blue. It's the bulk of the state population and contains parts of Portland, Salem, etc.
That is a beautiful part of the country though. Oregon is much more affordable than California. The job market is not quite as good as the major California metros though.
San Francisco Bay Area (west side of the bay in particular) is a nice area with a lot of great job opportunities but housing there is very expensive. I think the cost of living there would make it difficult for a family to justify moving there from a flyover state....but it is a very good place IMO.
I've spent a lot of time in Seattle, Portland, NYC, DC, Philly, and San Francisco. Based on my experiences, I think I'd prefer the west coast over the east coast. I have not spent much time in Los Angeles though.
I love Louisiana, but we in many ways more like a developing country compared to the east and west coasts.

It's absolutely the worst. Having lives in LA and Colorado now, I can tell you that I would sink into a deep depression if I was forced to move back to the south, excluding southern Florida beach towns.
Anything you can do in Louisiana, can be done in Colorado, minus boating. We've got and endless list of craft beer, and Coors if you are that kind of person. Marijuana is legal, and the outdoors are endless. You've got Blue Ribbon fishing and top notch hunting. Major sports teams, endless miles of trails and parks. There really is no comparison.

I would like for Louisiana to legalize marijuana before Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas do it. That would really help their budget problem and improve tourism in the bayou state.

I think it depends on the person. For me personally, it absolutely is. I would be miserable if I lived outside of the Southeast.

Well, none of those states are smart enough to legalize it anytime soon. Certainly not Louisiana or Texas. And that stubbornly stupid mindset is part of what holds the southeast back.

Well, everyone in the Northeast sure as shite doesn't stay up there when they retire..
I've lived in the Pacific NW on the ocean side of the Rockies and it absolutely sucks in the winter.
