they try to oversell you on every gimmick in the book.
they aren't that fast.
pretty fricking slow when people end up in front of you.
more expensive than what conventional wisdom would lead you to believe.
over tightening of bolts.

I use them for my company car cause it's fast, and I don't really care if they frick up.

Anyone who thinks a minimum-wage grease monkey is going to do a good job changing the oil deserves what they get eventually. I've seen a car drain it's oil in a parking lot because the quick-lube didn't torque the drain plug properly and good luck trying to get them to admit their screw-ups.

I used Take 5 a few times on my old car, until one day the plug fell off on the way home.

When I was in college I was home for the weekend and got my oil changed at Speedee. Got on the road towards Hattiesburg and as I'm approaching The split to 59, back of my car starts smoking. They didn't tighten the bolt enough and the bolt eventually fell out. Oil splashed all over the underside of the car and smoked. That was fun.
If you are worried about these places changing the oil filter, get a sharpie and put your initials on the filter. After you leave, check to see if the filter has your initials still on it. If it does... they did't change it.

Kenny Vaccaro recommends them..how could they be anything but terrific?

My ex gf went to the one on Coursey. She said when she went the mechanics generally made her feel very uncomfortable. One time it was so bad that she called me crying. Apparently she pulled up to get a change and the mechanic asked what she was going to do for him to get the oil change... I called over there and asked to speak to the manager.
Come to find out, the one doing the harassing was the manager. He swore up and down that he didn't do anything, and played dumb...we never went back after that.

That happened to me after taking it to a dealer one time, so it ain't just the quickie places that'll frick up.

When it comes to downright frauds nobody can beat Express Oil change. My wife went there for an oil change, and they told her she had a broken axle, needed new brakes because the calipers were ruined, needed a new motor mount, and two new O2 sensors.
They gave her an estimate of $4,000. She called me frantic. I said just to drive home, and I'd drive the car to my Unlce's shop in Houma. They tried to tell her they couldn't legally let her leave unless she at least had the brakes done. At that point she just left.
I drove the car to my 'shop, and the only thing writ needed was a new upstream O2 sensor. I ran to NAPA and got the part and he fixed it for me. Total cost $60 bucks.
We tried to call 6 on your side about those guys, but they never followed up.

You'll pay a premium for it, but I've never had any issues with them.
The employees are friendly, offer you a drink, let you know what's goin down and you're on your way in no time.
You never even have to get out of your vehicle.

this is throughout the car industry. Dealers are no different.
Wife of a friend (no pics) bought her just out of warranty car to Honda of Slidell for an oil change. They gave her a "complimentary" 18 point inspection or whatever and told her she needed $5,100 of work done on her car. Gave her a printout with all these giant Red "X"s all over it. She called my buddy in tears, same thing, she drove it home. They brought it to my FIL who is a retired mechanic, and the brake pads were just about to start hitting the squeak metal. Everything else was fine.

The first problem is that their prices significantly exceed the advertised price. I should have left when I saw that! Secondly problem is that the technician spilled oil on my engine so it still smells like burnt oil when I drive anywhere. Finally, the day after my oil change (they also "topped off" the air in the tires) I had a flat tire. I figured at first that I must have run over a nail but the tire shop said that the tire valve stem was quite loose and other than that nothing else was wrong. Of course, this *could* be a coincidence, but the tire shop seemed surprised that it had not previously leaked air so either through improper handling or something worse my sense is that they loosened the valve stem. If I had an option to give zero stars I would have chosen that, but I had to click at least one.

They take up selling to a new level. Seriously, I counted like 10. Plus it’s about $20 extra.
$40 for me at Valvoline, $60 at Take 5.

They're better than Speedy. I do not think you'll find any latter-day Smokey Yunicks working there, but I've probably used them a dozen times without any screw-ups or upsells.

They just bought out a couple of oil change places that were my regular places before. The price went up, they push harder to sell every service under the sun, now I can't get out and get a cup of coffee in the waiting area like I used to. I don't care for Take 5, and am taking my business elsewhere.

Find a good local shop/mechanic or do it yourself. For the people saying dealerships, they use the same Jiffy Lube kids to handle oil changes too unless you have a luxury import. Dealers have dicked up my car before. All that being said, I have used Blue Harbor in Mandeville with no complaints other than cost.

Buddy of mine got a new engine is his Tercel because the quickie change guy used the wrong oil filter and it all leaked out.

New heard of a loose valve stem before

That happens at times, just need either a washer or a new bolt.
