POS LG that’s only about three years old bit the dust last night, and I believe it’s going to be more cost effective in the long run to just replace it. I’ve always heard and read good things about Speed Queen in the past. Are they still the best combination of affordability and quality?

This one has all the bells and whistles, but the shaft that rotates and spins is drum is about the circumference of my pinky finger and about two inches long (no agitator), and it’s stripped out.

LG is old Goldstar brand renamed. Just a historical reference. We own a speed queen because it uses water like God intended a washer should.

We have a 2018 Speed Queen. It cleans much better than the LG POS HE washer that it replaced. Whites are whiter, and towels no longer smell like arse. I believe the older Speed Queen design is superior to the new one, but we are still very satisfied with our 2018 model after years of using the inferior LG product.

Got a SQ set from 2015 and another set from 2016.

The Washers are noisy and use a bunch of water but clean like a Mofo!

The dryers are very efficient, they will absolutely cook clothes on the hottest setting.

There is no better brand. Their concept is to keep it simple.

You buy a new whirlpool and expect to change it within ten years.
You buy a speed queen and expect your unborn kids to take it to their first home.

It's the Tacoma/4runner of machines. They are simple, not pretty, and last.

The biggest complaint is they are ugly and expensive.

.....actually Only buy a speedqueen if you aren't in the nola area. If you are in the nola are, buy a GE or a LG. If everyone bought speed queen, if be out of work.

Really?
To be honest I do prefer the mechanical timer models.
I have a commercial washer that has three settings and a start switch.

My knowledge of LG isn't just as a repair person.

Wife wanted a folding shelf above the machines in the mud room. My old kenmores are still going at my friends house.
My speed queen in the garage handles my rags and shop stuff.

I honestly don't know.
I don't keep up on New stuff until I see it physically.

That's why I love this job. Every day I have to quickly find problems I've never heard of before on machines I've never seen before.

If Speed Queens have gone down, I haven't heard that from industry guys. Though most push GE because they break and are easy to fix.

I hate digital controls on any appliance. What's wrong with turning a knob? I suspect over the last 10 years all the appliance repairs I have had with my assortment of brands refrigerators, washers, dryers, ovens, stoves have occurred on those with digital controls. Our washer and dryers have not been touched and they are at least 10 years old whirlpools with knobs. They may be 15 years old.

I don't pretend to be a pro or know anything near what Napoleon knows.

But...I just (last week) bought a new washer and during my research, I did not see good things about the 2018 speed queens and I think it was mostly due to some new agitator design.

We bought a Maytag with deep fill option and are very happy so far. Uses a ton of water and is loud as shite, so we love it.

We got a 2017 SQ Washer/Dryer post-Harvey flood. Pretty damn bullet proof so far. Would highly recommend.

There's an article out there that compares the new with the old models. Someone did a detailed video review. Something to do with the agitator design, as it doesn't turn the clothes over as much, and therefore not cleaning as well.

ETA:

Here's the article with a video. Apparently the business owner has been a huge SQ advocate since 2000. He changed his tune on the 2018s, and SQ shut him out from accessing all of the business systems he previously had access to.

Unfortunately, as Pallas demonstrates in his videos, this revamped wash action comes as a result of the agitator and tub moving in unison, rather than the separate action that Speed Queen fans swear by.

Speed Queen: The Life (and Death) of Internet Commenters’ Favorite Washing Machine

I would like to know more about the veracity of this article.

We've got the 2015 model with the digital panel. We wanted the manual one but they were on back order and they gave us the digital for the same price as the manual.

Not one hiccup so far. Running strong.
