Is selling unhealthy fast food morally different than selling cigarettes?

Is fast food responsible for the obesity crisis? Cigarettes certainly contributed to the premature deaths of many, does food laden with fat, sodium and sugar do the same.
We do all we can to discourage tobacco use, should we stop fast food from marketing to children?

Who cares. We have freedom in this country, at least for now. We don’t need our benevolent government telling tax paying Americans what to do or how to live our lives.

No one gives a damn. I don't care if some random person kills themselves on sugary foods, nor do I care if they get lung cancer from chain smoking reds.
We all have one life to live and some people make poor choices. Nothing to fret about. Just make your own decisions.

Every fast food restaurant commercial I've seen in 20 years is marketing to adults. So I must ask you - what the frick are you talking about? Ronald McDonald's Happy Meals in the 80's?

It’s pretty much the same. Fast food is somewhat defensible to me because at least it has some nutritional value. Snack foods on the other hand have none and should be banned.

Happy Meals are still advertised...

Yes, McDonald's Happy Meal commercials are very common, appearing regularly on TV and online, showcasing new toys from movies (like Inside Out 2 or Kung Fu Panda) and promoting fun, healthy food choices with animated characters and catchy jingles to attract kids and families.
Also,

That sounds like a commercial for Disney World, not so much a commercial for McDonald's.

It’s both- a tie in… not that I care- the choice for a happy meal is ultimately up to the adult and the onus is on them. But- it is fair to point out that brand awareness and loyalty starts while kiddos are still in pull ups.

It feels like Disney paying McDonald's to market Disney stuff to the families, because the families are already eating there. McDonald's isn't paying Disney to advertise their shite on the Happy Meals.

No....no different than cigarettes, or booze, or cigars. But apparently according to daddy government a 5 MG THC gummy is the scourge of humanity and must be stopped

Not all governments. Just backwards red state ones.

As a society we make these types of decisions all the time, everything from raw milk, to fireworks, to fentanyl. There is a fine line between freedom of choice and harm to people who assume that if you can buy it, it must be okay .
I don't see much difference between Todd Graves, McDonalds and the crack dealer, except that one isn't acceptable in our culture.

people just need to try a little moderation
We need to shame people for non-moderation

Don't worry about it. Who eats that stuff anyway? I only eat egg and sausage taquitos from Whataburger. It's a pretty good breakfast.

But you see, some people do give a damn. That's who matters, the people who do give a damn, we don't like seeing the power of national advertising selling such blatantly unhealthy crap to children and people looking for the cheapest calories available.
Now we have Doordash and video games, and you look at crowd pictures from the beach in the 60's, where did all the skinny people go?

Let’s say you get a burger and fries with a coke from McDonald’s.
You can buy all of that at the grocery store and make it at home.
So what’s the difference really?

I hate when my 5yo drives to McDonalds to buy a Happy Meal. But at least she picks me up some smokes on her way home.
