What risky loans?

Just wait till Feds raise interest rates throughout the year. SVB was managed poorly and rates are still “modest.” It could get dicey in the coming months for more banks

what happens to the mortgages that a bank owns if they fold like SVB?

The fear has started because a bank that basically gave risky loans to tech startups/crypto has gone belly up. The media really does have a lot of people scammed.
When the VC money hose to useless startups started slacking off the useless startups had to actually withdraw money from their checking accounts to buy stuff and pay employees.
When that happened, SVB had to sell assets to get the cash to hand out to their withdrawing depositors, and much to their shock and surprise they found out that 10 year bonds yielding 1.9% weren't worth shite today. (maturity and yield here are completely made up for examples, but the fundamental explanation is sound, I think).
A few well-connected insiders found out a couple days early and started a run on the bank - convincing ALL the depositors to panic and go for their money, and that's all she wrote.
Errbody with a 'Chief' in their title needs to be in jail, along with every principal in any short-selling hedge fund connected in any way to promoting the run.

Idk, you would need some suicides happening.
I didn’t like how some banks acted during covid, and I was disappointed in dealings for work with the bank I had a personal account with. I moved my personal checking all to a credit union. Been happy ever since.
My atm fees are waved, I get dividends on the account, and they have sent me emails and letters basically saying frick Joe Biden. The federal government shouldn’t be monitoring all of your transactions.

Truth, but the gubmint has said all depositors' funds will be available to them on Monday.
ETA: They are also guaranteeing SVB deposits, saying all of their money will be available Monday also.

I have no idea where Regions exists outside of AL, LA, MS and FL. They are probably in other states too. It's a pretty big bank. Top 20-30 in the country I think.
16 state footprint. That’s with branches and corporate offices. Lending is done nationwide depending on the industry.
Basically from FL up to KY and over to Mizzou and Texas. I worked there for a decade and assisted bankers all over from our Corporate HQ.
