That sucks!
Didja get your truck back? Was OnStar liable for broken promises?
eta- are you the poster who's tryck got jacked out of a hotel parking garage recently'ish?

That's good to know, because that is one of the attractive features of the program.

Yes that’s me lol. Onstar wasn’t liable for anything because it really wasn’t their fault. Just a flaw that it can be disabled. In my opinion, it should be wired in such a way that the truck itself should be disabled if On Star is tampered with.

I agree.
I can't recall if you got your ride back- all I remember is it seemed like it must have been an inside job (IIRC).
Did you recover your truck?

That's pretty cool! I've never locked my keys in but for some reason have been outlandishly terrified I might one day.

Hope you avoid those pesky hotel garages!

I had it on my Chevy trucks and used it quite a bit.
I once locked myself out while in Yellowstone, and they were able to unlock it. I was hundreds of miles from home with no spare key.
I loved pressing the on star button and getting a real person to talk to….my favorite request was a route "without interstates’. I hate interstate driving unless I need to get somewhere quickly I don’t see the point of a road trip if all I ever see is interstate and sound walls.
I now have a Toyota and miss the on star (6 years owning the Toyota) . Had I known how shitty Toyota’s nav feature was, that may have been a dealbreaker. Even the Toyota dealer told me to just use Waze.
Luckily, I never needed to use the automatically-send-help feature if in a wreck, but nice back up. It was relatively cheap monthly plan, though I don’t know what it is currently.
It was definitely worth it for me….but it’s kinda like a gym membership…if you don’t use it you are wasting money. Look at the list of services it provides and try some of them, like the route feature. You might find it is awesome and want to keep it…but if you just keep paying for the "just in case I get in a wreck" peace of mind, there are probably other programs (phone, Apple Watch, garmin) that can do that as well.

It is usually packaged with onboard wifi. Honestly it depends on your priorities.
Obviously it’s not a necessity for most people.

If I'm in a wreck and Onstar is the only thing that can save me.... Then I guess it's just my day.

If you have a vehicle that has onstar you would probably be better off spending money on an extended warranty or a repairs insurance policy.

We used it a lot during the 2016 flood when the entire city was without phone service.

It's shocking to me that anyone would pay for that.

Use mine exclusively for the remote start feature during summer and winter.
I rarely get into a hot or cold truck.

You should have the basic OnStar plan for free for up to 8 years if a new purchase. They want you to pay for the WIFI Hotspot and other shite you'll never use.
The OnStar Basic plan includes core services such as Automatic Crash Response, which automatically connects you to an advisor in a crash; Navigation with real-time traffic updates; and a Voice Assistant that can be used to access apps like Google Assistant. It also features Remote Commands, allowing you to control your vehicle's features remotely through the OnStar Guardian app.

The only time I have ever used it is when i am hunting somewhere remote and I don't have cell service. I use the internet and calling feature if needed. other than that, no.

If you're the type of person to pay for Sirius radio, then you you'd probably want Onstar.
