New Orleans is hardly a major American City… there’s no industry other than tourism.

Not sure how Portland, Seattle or LA proper are any better right now.

Its a different type of dysfunction.

The port. It's the only reason the city exists.

Yeah.. which is changing quickly on the West Coast.

California in particular has a demo time bomb already lit. Its being overwhelmed with poverty.

I realize what you’re saying, but yeah, the city does exist because of the port, because it was built around the port.. it’s a port city..

Baltimore

Crazy how no one ever talks about Baltimore. Probably the city most like New Orleans in the U.S. Lack of tourism, Jazz, and crab cakes instead of creole food are what separates the two. Even watching The Wire you could plainly see how all the exact same things probably happening in N.O.

New Orleans isn’t a major American city.

Baltimore is far worse. But that’s the future of New Orleans if they don’t change course soon.

Just out of curiosity, what major industry exists in NO outside of tourism?

The port is a no brainer, considering it is the mouth of the MS.

What industry does NO actually have besides tourism?

It's definitely the most disgusting with the foulest stench of any other city. It's quite a pungent swamp.
