Does their radio station start with a “W” or a “K”?

You’re welcome.

If you were to pull the Mississippi River taut NOLA would be east of the river but with the exception of the terms East Bank and West Bank I’ve never heard any say the city is east of the river.

No one uses that term for the city specifically.

If you hear a designation like that it would be something like the rare “biggest/best/worst…. East of the Mississippi”

I recall once seeing the claim that French quarter fest was the largest free festival east of the Mississippi once for instance.

It isn’t common though

Perfect except the main part is East. ….err west. No, East.

Thanks, I wasn’t sure

In Missouri cities we do it based on where the river is on the map. I was wondering about New Orleans because “East/West of the river” has been a notable divider/talking point in America for a long time

You got St Louis, and then you've got East St Louis with a big bridge over the river between the two. West and east.

Is the Diamond Cabaret still open in E St Louis across the highway from the plant (Monsanto)? Prime rib, baked potato and nekkid wimmin for the $5 lunch special. I've spent more on worse.

I always assumed the "river mile" measurement started at someplace like SW Pass or Pilot town.

Mile markers are from Southwest Pass. It’s 230 miles from SW Pass to BTR.

Both WIBW and KMAJ broadcast from where I live and I live in Kansas. There are stations grandfathered in before the FCC made that regulation.

Yes for certain, east of the Miss. River. However it can be really mind blowing when you’re in the Quarter & you realize the sun rose over the river

KLSU.

quote:

KLSU is unusual in that its callsign begins with a K but is located on the east side on the Mississippi River (which should have it beginning with a W), and the callsign was not the beneficiary of the FCC grandfather clause. During the application period for the station, it was discovered that the desired callsign, WLSU, was already held by the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse. Because KLSU would be located within a mile of the Mississippi River, the FCC granted an exemption to the K–W rule so it could have LSU in its callsign.
