I recall once seeing the claim that French quarter fest was the largest free festival east of the Mississippi once for instance.
It isn’t common though

In Missouri cities we do it based on where the river is on the map. I was wondering about New Orleans because “East/West of the river” has been a notable divider/talking point in America for a long time

You got St Louis, and then you've got East St Louis with a big bridge over the river between the two. West and east.

Mile markers are from Southwest Pass. It’s 230 miles from SW Pass to BTR.

Both WIBW and KMAJ broadcast from where I live and I live in Kansas. There are stations grandfathered in before the FCC made that regulation.

Yes for certain, east of the Miss. River. However it can be really mind blowing when you’re in the Quarter & you realize the sun rose over the river
