I haven't implied he's going after anyone that bad? I've said his bashing has been subtle. In fact I've endorsed the show numerous times.

Watch VICE or bill maher - it's not even close

Bill Maher is simply a shite stirrer. The guy has balls, doesn't give a frick, and his show is good, but I don't think Bill is doing anything revolutionary. Granted when he gets good guests on there that don't give a frick about offending others, then the show turns great as the liberals squirm never expecting to be openly disagreed with when Maher has such a liberal audience. Maher's show is probably the best forum for an actual debate, but not journalistic integrity. It's clear Maher wants to actively debate with people he and others disagree with, rather than shame them under a table like the rest of journalists command. His show is good for society, but isn't really talking about anything we all don't talk about.

As for Vice, yes that show is also incredible. That and 60 Minutes are the only two news programs that still give a frick about journalistic integrity. They are really the only shows that can truly compare to Last Week Tonight.

I agree with you for the most part. Man I love it when he trolls his guests on radical islam. it drives his guests insane such a well-respected lib would dare call a spade a spade

Also, I am pretty sure Maher has a big hand in Vice

He is not a journalist, so no.

He's a comic that reads the stories real journalists prepare for him.

Oliver is good and I'm fairly conservative and vote pretty much party line republican. He isn't non partisan however. He isn't near as bad as maher but to say he attacks both sides evenly is way off. Some episodes are completely even and balanced then he will have one where he does nothing but attack the right. I love him and the show. His show talks about topics you would never hear about anywhere else. He actually cares about the issues and tries to be fair as he can most of the time. He can be partisan for all I care because his show is intelligent and refreshing. I love that he doesn't bring blow hards on to rant like maher and Stewart. I say to any fellow conservative who doesn't feel like watching another comedian bash conservatives this show is different. Yes he is liberal and voices that often. However this guy cares about both sides and understands that both sides have their points and faults. Plus his comedy can be smart, mature and just awesome. Give it a try it is worth the watch.

Right yes chap. A British comic is the best "journalista" in America. And The Daily Show is real news coverage too.

Funny you say that, since everyone a study is done, people who only watch the daily show are better informed on current events than Fox news viewers. And people who don't watch any news are also better informed than Fox viewers.

Of course, NPR listeners tend to be the most knowledgeable. That shouldn't come as a surprise.

Don't lump daily show in with Oliver's show. The daily show is partisan hackery compared to Last week tonight. Not even close to each other. i can't watch 1 minute of any of comed centrals faux new shows now. Oliver has ruined me towards them.

John Oliver was asked if he was the best journalist in America in an interview once, and this was his quite literally his exact same reply that the country was fricked if this is the truth.

It's ridiculous to me that people don't watch his show and they just naturally assume he's Pierce Morgan. Oliver was interviewed by Howard Stern and Oliver said he can't stand Pierce Morgan, that he has a ridiculous "holier-than-thou" attitude, and really doesn't understand the American mindset. Watch Oliver's interview with Edward Snowden, and I think it's clear that not only does he understand the American mindset, but understands it more than just about anyone, myself included.

The guy is brilliant at boiling down the issues to their most basic forms and makes me give a shite about seemingly boring issues. Oliver is pretty much the anti-media guy and media at large's biggest critic. You can tell how insane the media drives him week after week, and it's not Fox News that he's targeting like every other bottom feeder. Oliver knows that media these days is run by Ron Burgundy and simply talk about things that will produce ratings and not accept any blame for their irresponsibility. Oliver is determined to actually bring up issues that the media are irresponsible for not reporting. Yes they are boring on the surface and they don't produce the ratings, but Oliver knows that the public needs to be made aware of the boring issues, or else this country will go straight to hell while the media, government, and corporations laugh their arse off on the way to the bank while ripping the general population a new a-hole

As a Brit, Piers Morgan is one of the least popular British people I've ever known of. He is basically despised in Britain.

Anyone who would associate the two because of the accent is sorely mistaken.

Really incredible that in the 21st century people are being politically informed by comedians.

But as long as it's working, I don't really give a shite where the info comes from. I think attention spans keep contracting for various reasons, so unless you can mix in entertainment with information, it's not going to be absorbed.

No I take that back. Saying attention spans have contracted would indicate that older generations are more informed than the younger ones, which certainly isn't true.

Comedy is the vehicle to finally begin to educate the masses who have been incredibly ignorant and easy to sway with propaganda pre-internet.

Fox "News" is just a right wing propaganda outlet that only the dumb, the old, and the dumb & old are susceptible to.

CNN makes an attempt to be neutral but they fall victim to the ratings chase seeking out shiny objects to report on.

Bollocks.

Which 'real' journalists took the time to cover online harassment of women with the skill he did?

Quality news journalism is dead. 24 hours news, blogs and churnalism killed it.

I'd much rather listen to John Oliver talk about something I don't really know about than see the 'BREAKING NEWS: Donald Trump Benghazi Global Warming blah blah'. The fact that Oliver also happens to be funny is a bonus. I don't watch him to get all the typical political issues, but after his show, I'm more informed and entertained. IMO he's taken the format the Daily Show made popular and given it relevance.

I know his show has to be the most well researched on TV. He covers topics that most never even consider, and delivers great, thought provoking info. The Snowden interview was genius.

Even though he doesn't hide his bias, Stossel still writes objective pieces that are logical, informative, and a fresh take on current events when he chooses to talk about them. Stossel just doesn't have the platform Oliver does with HBO. Frankly I don't think Stossel even wants a huge platform and presence at Fox

I guess in most cases they also cover different issues. I enjoy both, but I agree with Beam that I've never really considered Oliver an actual journalist.

He went to Russia to interview Snowden. If that's not journalism then I'm not sure what is.

I know they aren't the only ones who do this but I think CNN is the absolute worst about sending a reporter to a scene to speculate wildly about what a siren or honking horn might mean near a current event.

Holy hell. 24 hour reporting with maybe 5 minutes of content and analysis a day.
