How come all of the "real journalism" comes from left leaning comedians? I mean who doesn't like making fun of redneck white conservatives considering that's really the only people you can make fun of without receiving death threats or any other backlash.

Not a journalist in any sense of the word.

He's not a journalist.
1) He doesn't write for newspapers or magazines.
2) He doesn't prepare anything for the show other than going over his delivery style- his 30+ writers take care of that.

No, Lisa DePaulo is and it's not even close.

Real journalists report on stories that can't be boiled down to a 20 second barrage of talking points followed by two or more jackwagons weighing in with their unsubstantiated opinions.

I think so, but that's more of an insult to how low journalism has sank than a compliment to him. He's the only guy who actually gives a frick about actual issues that don't get the ratings and doesn't partake in pointless fear mongering that every other news organization/show has taken up.
Oliver's success is not reflective of how bad journalism is now. It is due to the fact that young people (<30) want to constantly be entertained. Oliver's segments are a humorous compilation of what other news outlets are already reporting. Young people just don't pay attention to those news outlets. And I'm not talking about CNN or Fox News.

You seem to be forgetting about all the in-depth stories he covers that NONE of the other news outlets are reporting. This seems to be at least 45% of his content.

Must be the first generation ever...
Wait a minute. What about that Johnny Carson guy? Didn't he do much the same thing and he was considered the most influential man in America...and his daily research schedule was legendary.

Every single one of his major topics has been covered by a news outlet before him. Again I'm not talking about CNN or Fox. Public funded stadiums, food waste, confederate flag, bail, government surveillance etc. His major topics are just clips from other news sources with his own commentary. He does a great job highlighting the issue and I'm not dogging him. I'm just saying he's not going out and finding these stories.

He went to Russia to interview Snowden. If that's not journalism then I'm not sure what is.
I've seen 10 year olds interview the president. Are they journalists too?
He's just a talking head and a very good one.

He talks funny, which makes me laugh but he wants to take away our guns and flags and that makes me angry. frick him in his Australian arse.
Posted on 7/24/15 at 7:56 am to Breesus
Does he write his own segments?

I like VICE and the stories they do, but it the show has definitely had a more pronounced agenda as it has gone on. I prefer them to report the facts and let me come to my own conclusion.

Thanks for proving you've never watched his show before, so please shut the frick up.

Oliver said he can't stand Pierce Morgan, that he has a ridiculous "holier-than-thou" attitude,
I think his show is funny, and occasionally informative, but the entire show is him mocking and condescending every subject of his bits. He is the definition of what he claims to hate. His entire shtick is acting like it's ridiculous that someone might not share his view, to the point that his face is in a constant state of either shock or shite eating grin.

His interview with Snowden and the dick pics was fricking brilliant, and I think if everyone watched his interview with him, almost everyone would start giving a shite about government surveillance.
Absolutely. He is highly intelligent and very savvy. Two things you don't get to see together in today's mass media.

No.
But, he is one of the best commentators in America.
And, he's definitely liberal, but unlike most, readily concedes the other side does have some legitimate points (while lampooning the more extreme and unsupported positions of the other side).
