Looking into getting my motorcycle endorsement and wondered if any of you have taken the class or just went to the DMV

Never a bad idea.

Most insurers will offer a discount if you have a course completion certificate.

Oh and get ready to get shite on by the OT for riding a motorcycle.

You have to take a written and riding. Easiest to get a scooter for the riding, they make you do tight figure 8s in the packed parking lot. The written is pretty easy, 95% is common sense and 5% are specific motorcycle laws.

Get all the drivers around you a class.

I was a big motorcycle rider years ago. I would be a nervous wreck now a days to be on the roads with so many distracted drivers.

Taking the course is a good idea, especially of you are new to street riding.

It will help make you aware of things drivers do that gets motorcyclist killed, even in the event that they never wreck into one another.

It’s just better having the information they offer in the class, even if it is something you already knew.

I rode my bike to the DMV. The lady came outside and asked how I got there. I said "I rode it here." She went back inside and printed out my license.

I got rid of that bike 4 years ago. Having to lay it down 3 times in 2 years due to other drivers pulling out in front of me while I did 35-55 MPH was enough for me. Good luck.

I live in Louisiana. Place with the worst roads and the worst drivers. No thanks. Not if but when.

Do you want to be laying on the side of the road about to die wishing you had taken that class or would you rather be laying on the side of the road about to die knowing you did everything the right way?

Good idea because there are always questions to be answered, emergency situations addressed and local knowledge helps regarding roads and road conditions.

Take the MSF course. It is worth it.

The road test is easy..."tight" figure 8's... Ha.. it's really easy, and if you think doing a figure 8 in a parking lot is tight...

The MSF course is pretty crap, take it to get the insurance discount though.

If your goal is wanting to learn to ride well, start with something like total control.

If you own a bike and to not take a respectable class you are asking for trouble. In the old days the police had the best course, not sure about today. If you have a State Trooper training or post nearby, start there.

Post here if that works.

Good luck on the bike, remember even if you are a top driver, it is the other idiots on the road that will get you killed or maimed. You have American heavy metal or you on a rice burner?

I would love to get a motorcycle, but the way people drive now I’m often scared in my truck so too scared to take a chance on the motorcycle with all the idiots on the road

I will give you a short-course.

1) Don't be the a-hole cyclist who, when traffic is stopped, drives between all the stopped cars to get to the front of the line.

2) Don't be the a-hole cyclist who zig-zags through traffic on the interstate at 90 mph.

3) Make sure your life insurance policy is up to date.

4) Don't coast in the windless spot behind a semi

(if the truck driver can't see you, that is never good)
