I actually think you are right. Family shower, friends shower and work shower.

It was the norm where I worked because it meant a party. Coworkers got an hour or two break from work with cake and moms got a $50 gift card.

I find that most have full blown showers for the first, getting lots of items and large items like baby gear. Second kid might get a "sprinkle" with clothes and diapers at a lunch with friends but not a huge party. Additional kids get nothing.

The only time I've seen full blown showers for second+ kids is when there was a large age difference, like ten years, between the kids.

Around our circle of friends, they do have showers for all the kids, but you aren't expected to give gifts after the first kid. After the first kid, it's more of just a party.

We only got gifts for our first kid. None after that. But now at work anytime someone has a baby they ask everyone to donate for gift cards and stuff. No thanks. They didn’t give me shite for mine.

Think so. They want more stuff for the subsequent kids.

You get crap for the 1st one. That's it.

At about the 4th kid, they should be given medication as gifts. Like the comedian says:

Having a fourth child is like you're drowning,

and someone hands you a baby.

Baby showers are typically for your first born to get all the baby necessities.

For additional children a baby sprinkle is more appropriate. It's for close friends and family to gift you with smaller things you'll need for the additional child...diapers other gendered clothing if necessary. So basically a smaller shower.

Personally, I wouldn't have a shower for a second child, but it's not unheard of. For whatever reason people love buying baby gifts.

It’s also not all about the gifts. People with close family/friends like to get together to celebrate the coming of a new child. I see no problem with it.

We're expecting our first and will have at least 3 showers that our friends and family in different cities are basically making us do.

My wife's friends and family eat this shite up. They would do on every weekend if they could.

No, I get it when it's a reason for friends and/or family to get together and they give the person having a baby something, maybe they all pitch in.. Whatever, but I am talking about an all out shower. The person who is pregnant talking about how she needs a new stroller, etc..

Are any the ones where the men are invited as well? If so, that sucks. Whoever started that shite needs to have bricks thrown at them.

For the first child, a big Shower with everyone the couple knows seems typical.

For additional children, they sometimes hold a "Sprinkle" which is a more low-key event with only the close friends/family.

You are talking about scenarios that only exist in your imagination.

My wife went to a "baby sprinkle" for her cousin who had a second kid, different sex, and 5 years after the first.

I think it is uncouth to have a shower for a second child.

I figured the sprinkle was on par with a gender reveal. Trashy.

The purchasing of shite that we already own is what keeps this engine going. We'd all be better off if every baby got TWO baby showers. One could even be golden.
