No, after you have one kid, having another shower is trashy.

This is what I've been told

Although apparently there is something called a "sprinkle" which is a mini-shower for subsequent kids

"Little Jaxon has plenty to share, this is just a sprinkle to show we care."

It may be a bit overkill, but I don't see how it's trashy. I threw a friend a "Sprinkle" in the form of a tea party (ladies only obviously). It was mainly because their first baby was a boy and so this was our chance to get her girly stuff. They had also chosen the name, so there were lots of personalized items as well.

The amount of people that get worked up by something that has no bearing on them on this board always amazes me. If you don't agree with it, don't go. No one will miss you.

I agree, but at the same time this is a message board

It makes sense that people talk about what's appropriate and what isn't on a message board

we've got shite else to do

What makes it inappropriate?

ETA: Assuming the parents in question aren't hosting this party for themselves, because that is tacky

What? I would hope, that if I would make up something.. It wouldn't be about someone who tells people they need a new stroller..

Read the prior 3 pages of discussion on that very topic

As a guy, I have no fricking clue

I do think incessant "look at me I had a baby" stuff is absolutely out of control, but I don't necessarily think having a shower per kid falls into that category. Some do think it violates some social norm however, as this thread indicates.

1 of them is.

Its at a country club with an open bar that our friends are paying for and the men are playing golf before.

I'm quite excited actually

That's not how showers work, dipshit. People don't throw them for themselves. Friends and family to do this. If your friends decide they want to have a shower or sprinkle for later children, it's entirely up to them.

Like I said earlier. I understand if friends or family do it the 2nd, 3rd time as a reason to get together.. They all chip in to get something, but I just think it is "tacky" to expect others, who are not that close to the person (co-worker), to give something. Or go around and collect money to buy a certain item that the person said they need..

This is a whole other can of worms. The "group gift" thing is the worst! My SO's office is constantly doing this for every occasion and it gets bigger every time. Signing a group card is okay, but group gifts that mix close friends and coworkers and acquaintances together are unacceptable IMO.

If I know and like you, I want to pick out a special gift on my own, not give 1/7687364th of a stroller.

Yeah, my wife does this with a group of friends for others in the group, when they get married or have kids. It started with a $20 gift, and now is up to $100 per friend. We can afford it, but I would like to one day be the recipient of the $1500 gift.

THey also do it at her work, but that hovers around the $20 pp mark.

I don't really have a problem giving people gifts, but sometimes it is excessive. Like on your 3rd kid or 2nd marriage, I am not sure you should be getting gifts.

If you want to go to the shower, they will accept the gift. It helps the family out so why shouldn't they do it?

I don't care what the occasion is, even if it's a less traditionally gift-worthy one. I hate having the choice taken away.

I totally love picking out gifts for people. I get really excited and put a lot of thought into getting just the right thing. Group gifts rob me of so much joy. It's clearly more about me than them

Is it July 19, 1840 or July 18, 1940?

I can never recall

My wife and I love the group gift concept as we don't have to pick them out. It is just a tad out of control.

Our friend got his masters at 42, and he got a group gift. WTF?

Right.

These threads always make it seem as though the parents are the ones throwing the shower. I've literally never seen that. That would be tacky as frick.

If/when we have a 2nd child, I'm sure my MIL or Mom will want to have some type of shower or "sprinkle" or whatever. Old women love this stuff.

And I don't care enough either way to fight them about it.
