I still believe it's driven by the parents thinking their kids are better, bigger, stronger than they really are.

my kid is an average size 12u but we spend a ton of time in the cage. he's got 2 -5's he swings the shite out of in cage and a cat x composite -8, plus a wood bat he trains with.

like i said, better pitching he'll stick w -8 but he's not afraid to bring out the icon -5. Had a good shot this weekend w it. He's also in 7th grade and will be playing 8th grade highschool ball next year so i'm preparing him for the future of high school which is sooner for him due to him not being a typical held back boy.

Could’ve saved some money just buying a bat from some other travelball sucker parent who spent 350 on a bat last season

Once broke in, keep it for game time or real baseball cage time. I would buy him a wooden bat for the cage and for weighted balls. The wooden bat will strengthen his forearms as well as teaching him to barrel up the ball on the sweet spot.

Marucci will be hit with a class action lawsuits in 10 years due to an overwhelming amount of deaf baseball dads and kids from the Cat X.

Get a Hype Fire. Hotter and doesn’t sound like you’re building a railroad vs at a PG tourney.

I haven't read any replies yet, so apologies if this has already been stated.

but how old is your kid?
any chance he hits a growth spurt and outgrows the bat soon?

Well definitely not, with that support.

That bat is very durable. I’d let him hit weighted balls with it. Only thing I’d avoid is hitting below 50 degrees with it or off a pitching machine. Weighted balls don’t break a bat. They’re soft. Excessive swings on a pitching machine breaks youth bats. But the Marucci are the most durable on the market.

Find a 33" Stinger Missile 2 and change the graphics to a mimic a legal bat and all of the above will change at least until he has to start using wood.

You gotta think like Bill Belichick.

For those that have used or have kids/players that use these types of bats, after break in, do they use it in the cage or to hit weighted balls? Or is it strictly game use? He spent a lot and i want it to last for him.

For softball kids the Eastman Ghost is the favored bat in these circles.
After hearing about how much it would improve her hitting, I finally
let my kid and her mom bend me over and I bought that stupid arse $417.50 bat.

The very first tournament she used it, she started slapping liners significantly harder than before. I said "Oh you MFer" after the first one.

I still hate that they were right about these stupid fancy composite bats. They are legit. I suggested a $200 bat b/c she's not a college softball player material. She's just a decent high school player for small school

If you aren’t getting the victus pencil bat, you aren’t really playing baseball

cat x comp is built to take around 2000 swings. should be fine with cage hitting but its only gonna last him a year before he needs bigger size anyways and it comes with a year warranty. it sucks but kids grow so damn fast they need a new size almost every year. maybe not every one but if you can get season and a half from a bat, thats amazing. 2 is almost unheard of unless you buy a size too big and have choke up knobs.

its fine to use with the driveline plyo weighed balls but i would not hit any other type of weighed balls with it. the connection piece could become comprised using the harder rubber kind that weigh 16oz

-5 is still heavy for 12U. They can use -10 until 13U when they are required to use -8.

they shouldnt be using -10 at 12u. good way to ensure you break the bat and then thats a huge jump from drop 8 at 12 to bbcor drop3 at 14.

that kind of thinking is why so many kids leave the game at that age and cant make the HS team....totally unprepared for the big field and bbcor bats.

normal size kids should be
8-10 should use drop 10
11 and some of 12- drop 8
12-13 drop 5
14-college- bbcor drop 3

quote:

My kid is 12U and swings -8. I was just stating the rules. Don't see any kids in 12U swinging -5. If they are it's mostly their parents thinking they are the next Ohtani or Judge.

most of the major level kids swing drop 5 at 12. everyone at that level atleast swings drop 8 at 12 and at 13 100% of them swing drop 5.

its too big a jump to go drop 8 to drop 3

11, he's mid spurt. which is why we went 31 -5. hopefully it lasts 2 years. if not, will shelf it until his brothers get to it.

not to mention the OP is worried about durability and this dude suggest the most fragile of bats

dont get me wrong, if your kid can swing the drop 5 hype its a game changer. best usssa bat of all time

icon is close 2nd along with the banned green zen

in drop 8 and drop 10 the icon is best usssa bat of all time. a properly broken in drop 8 hype fire is very good too though.
