I see no one has answered you yet. So I will.

Yes, 100%, a top-tier bat will transfer more power even for an average sized 11U player. They have a bigger sweet spot and a better trampoline effect.

yep makes a huge difference and many will say...just use wood or something akin to bbcor but the problem is you are at a huge competitive disadvantage which wouldnt be a big deal but kids like to do well and we need to keep as many playing competitive sports as long as possible

youth baseball participation is finally getting back up to pre covid levels, last thing we want to do is start sucking the fun out of things and turn all old man yelling at clouds

Let him use it. The cat x is super durable.

My son got away from almost all composites a while back. There is just a wide disparity in performance in them even with same models. The break in seems different on each, then add in the constant busted bat issue and the cold weather issues. I am a big fan of all Marucci prducts, but the Atlas is his gamer this year. He is 14 and has had bbcor for 2 years, so I dont konw much about the new models. Best bat he ever had was an alloy Rawlings Velo when he as 10 or 11. Got it for 100 bucks on a clearance rack somewhere, just liked the look of it and damn it was awesome. of the dozens of bats we have bought for him, he keeps it in the closet so I dont give it away.

Whats yalls thoughts on a 9u coach that has a 5 minute profanity laced flat our yelling session berating the kids and saying he was embarrassed to be their coach after a loss to a superior team? I almost lost my shite.....

My son would no longer be on that team.

Last spring I was at an adjacent ball field where Troy Tulowitzki was working with his kid. Man, Tulo was absolutely brutal to his kid. Cussed at him non-stop for not making perfect throws and for not hitting the ball hard enough. I was truly embarrassed for him, and I don't even know the guy. I felt bad for the kid.

And just as I was thinking things would get better for him, because his mom came to watch him workout with his dad... things got worse. Mom starts chiming in, "I didn't pay $400 for that fricking bat for you to have a shitty swing. You better start hitting the ball right or I'm going to take that fricking bat away and give you a fricking broom stick!"

This is not fiction, hyperbole, or even exaggeration. She told him that he'd have to hit with a broom stick.

Get on eBay and get an older Easton Ghost.

the drop 8 is not even remotely in the same neighborhood as the drop 5.
the drop 5 is silly hot. I forget the ev my son got out of one, he was swinging a bbcor and was at like 86-87 or something like that, swung the hype and it was a full 10 mph faster. Again, I dont remember the numbers, but it was silly hot my boy said.

Tell me you don’t know who Troy Tulowitzki is without telling me you don’t know who Troy Tulowitzki is.

Drop-5 to BBCOR is always going to be a loss of 8-10 mph on EV.

87-88 with BBCOR is a damn good EV for a 12U player.

no. He wasn’t 12. This was prior to his freshman year. He may be sniffing 90 now. He is thickening up in a good way

I think we started with a 26-11 Easton aluminum cheap-o, 1st yr live arm. It was $40.

Don’t use it with weighted balls for sure!
Game use and light practice use will extend/ maximize its lifespan

it ain't worth the risk of buying it and others follow suit. EHF is also proven to not be worth the risk durability wise neither.

usssa is not going to follow suit unless easton says the bat doesnt meet standard

as far as which bat to get...depends on what type of hitter your kid is and how big/strong he is

if he is big and strong and is a power hitter...hype fire

if he is line drive hitter and prefers a more balanced bat, go icon.

personally i like icon way better for most kids but the hype fire in drop 5 is pretty special.

and this should be his game bat only. train with a wood bat if possible

many people are applauding the decision...im fine with it in 13aaa/majors

but let the other kids have fun. let the 13/14u AA kids have fun as for many it will be their last years of baseball or it they havent hit puberty yet anyways

for 12u majors, ban it. 50' is too close with kids that are as big as some of them.

now USSSA does need to fix the hold back situation if they are going to allow it and go to PG/2d rules on that until 14. at 14 play grade level, before that, play age with exception of 2 per team max and have to be born between jan and may, so super hold backs.

Yes, he does this now.

Agree 100%. The super hold backs vs. early 13 year olds that haven't started puberty yet is a MASSIVE physical difference.
