Yes. Intelligent people can make bad choices e.g. coke and booze = broke.

Absolutely. I know a lot of Bush Bums who are highly intelligent put but just dropped out of the rat race

Alternatively, I know many rich people that can barely spell, cook a simple meal for themselves, or operate a computer. You don't have to be smart to be rich.

I think the most intelligent people are insane, or at least on the autism spectrum.

I know a dude who is genius level smart. Someone who worked with him told me he is technically a borderline genius.. He is in his mid 40s now, but you know what he has done his whole life?

Worked as a cashier at a grocery store.

After HS, he went to LSU and teachers would always want to talk with him after class because he was always correcting them during their lectures. I think he got dropped from a class for doing it.. This was in his first semester.. By mid semester, he would just ride the busses around campus all day.. reading.

I don't know what it is. It's not easy to have a normal "what's going on floyd? you watched the game last night" type conversation. He will turn a casual conversation into him telling you about why something is this way, etc. He is kind of like Sheldon on BBT, but doesn't flaunt his intelligence or anything. He is also a huge hockey fan. He really could probably be working in Silicon Valley or some shite.. His drivers license got taken away from him because I think he got in a lot of wrecks.. So his mom drives him everywhere. It's the craziest shite.

I don't think so. Why is that sad?

Yes.

If they are otherwise debilitated in ways that prevent them from capitalizing on their intelligence.

For instance someone who has chronic anxiety and can't stand up to the pressures of work life.

ETA: Or lazy, or procrastinators, etc.

Some people can do quantum physics in their sleep but don't know how to work monthly bills versus their income.

You can be intelligent and lazy at the same time. I’m a pretty good example of that.

I just love how so many people believe there is a monetary value to intelligence. Are you not aware that one of the top reasons for bankruptcy in this country is medical? I do not believe that having a child stricken with Leukemia or being involved in a terrible accident that leads to the need for government assistance has anything to do with intelligence.

There’s actually a curve relating intelligence to income.

The smarter you get, the more you make.

But at some point you reach a peak, and income starts dropping.

Think about it: the smartest among us are usually university professors doing cutting edge research. Smarter than most CEO’s? Yes. But, universities don’t pay jack.

I doubt most geniuses are living in the lap of luxury.

There are plenty rich people who are dumb. I've known several in my day. Some people just know how to do one thing in this world, and that's to make money.

Lots of smart people fall to drug addiction - usually a lot to do with some sort of self medication / depression type thing.

A lot of the smartest people I know love drugs. It has gotten the best of them, and kept them from being any type of successful
