O&G is in the shitter, casinos are closed, and income tax and sales tax revenues will be down. Something has got to give with so much less money coming in to the state treasury.

Depends, can you imagine your local DMV with 50% less of its' staff?

Yes.
But phase 4 of Federal Corona money printing will be a trillion in aid to the states and local governments. So, they may end up with more money.

I pay the few extra bucks and go to the private provider.

I member. Don’t think tax payers want to piss it all down the drain on these government workers tho

Tax increases will only exacerbate the exodus of companies / residents fleeing Louisiana so they have to cut the number of employees to the bone. Either that or declare BK protection and wipe out the pension system for state workers.

Have fun paying all the SS money that would need to be backpaid to try that.

I trust that all the pension boards made prudent investment decisions.

States are specifically prohibited from declaring bankruptcy

But the legislature can amend the pension plan and reduce benefits. Which it should.

I don't have the citations in front of me now but there are state constitutional provisions that require the funding of various state pensions.

State and local budgets will have to be under the knife since they don’t have time Fed to finance their foolishness. I wonder which social programs will be cut first because we needed to be save from the rona.

As if anyone would actually notice any difference.

You want to reduce benefits for people that already retired?

you forgot about O&G industry taxes wont be 25% of their normal taxes
so next years budget will have to divvy up "maybe" 25% of what they had to spend this year
