Generations of selective breeding make a huge difference. Not one fat person in my family tree. This past Thanksgiving we had the largest get together in over a decade. Not one fat kid, not one fat adult. Over fifty people.

it goes against this board's narrative, but genetics have a lot to do with it. there's no excuse for being morbidly obese, but it's a lot harder for some than others.

Regardless of genetics....
Everyone who is morbidly obese got that way from eating too damn much.

No doubt. You gravitate to what your genetics have shown and your environment has shown. There just aren't any fatties around.

And not moving enough. I take stairs instead of escalators and elevators when possible.

no doubt.

I eat pretty bad, but I'm still in decent shape. If most people ate like i do, even with the high amount of exercise i get, they would be much fatter.

To be fair, this is negligible. At my height/weight, I burn like 60 or so calories per MILE. That means taking the stairs is barely canceling out a bite of salad

But you guys are right - people who are conditioned from childhood to overeat are going to be miserable when they attempt to eat a reasonable amount. The first few weeks of calorie restriction is hard for any person, but can you imagine how hard it must be for someone who has been consuming literally thousands beyond that limit? Like GreatLakes said, there is no excuse for being morbidly obese.. but I absolutely believe it is quite a feat to overcome once you're there.

Not preaching health, just being overweight. And there are some conditions that are difficult to overcome in regards to being overweight.

I exercise and watch what I eat. That habit is going to have to be stopped soon and I will.

Probably the skinny people who have to contribute more money into insurance to fix up the fat people. Fat people should pay more for insurance.

I hate having an uneven metabolism.
Some weeks I can eat once a day and other weeks I am always hungry.

If you are in the south OP, then yes, the he majority of the people are fat.

It's much more than just the South. I drive all over the country every year, and people ate getting fatter everywhere.

I mean Boulder CO is different (except there are fat Mexicans there) but midwest, NE, and outside of cities pretty much everywhere it's prevalent.

There is absolutely no mystery as to why.

I think about Oprah Winfrey. A woman who is a billionaire. Can hire chefs, fitness trainers, own the very best fitness equipment, and buy the optimum supplements and vitamins and has been obese most of her life.
What gives ?
