re: Is it better for a kid to be at home with mom until 3 or 4 years old, or go to daycare?

This. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. IMO it comes down to numbers and how much money the parents each make. Each person will have a tipping point related to income and benefit of staying at home.

At home with mom. Daycare isn't the same level of nurturing a child receives from a loving mother

Homeschool parents are just weird as frick.
Another eloquent well thought out post on the OT.
You're showing your ignorance as the rise of online education has opened up all kinds of possibilities for children to learn in non traditional school environments. The horror that some kids don't go through proper state schooling right?
But by all means keep spouting stuff you made your mind up about 20 years ago because, you know, you got it all figured out.

My 3yo runs around with his mom and sometimes with Dad when he works from home.
He knows nothing but pure joy. He's unafraid and spends his days playing with bugs or bringing frogs and turtles in the house or climbing under the sink with his dad to help swap a faucet.
He has the rest of his life to deal with shitty people who don't care for him like his parents do so why would we want to subject him to that now?
They only grow up once.

Yup. Our lifestyle would have to change drastically if either my wife or I quit our job to stay he with the baby.
Sure, it would be great to be able to stay home with him during his precious infant/toddler years, but it's a decision we made to put him in daycare.
I didn't read all this thread, but is anyone posting anything other than opinions and anecdotes? Like actual research on daycare vs SAHM?

Your wife can at home surpass any educational or developmental milestones that your kid would reach in preschool or preK.
In higher cost of living places unless youre bringing in $150k/year its not feasible to have one person at home and pay a mortgage.

Well. Staying with mother wasn’t a problem for all of human history. Modern day, people be in daycare more and shooting up schools, so...not necessarily but there’s that to consider.
Kids really weren't in daycare during the early-mid 1900's. There were 2 world wars during that time. Kids staying at home with their parents cause world wars.

Yes..being with their mother during these critical formative years is better. I would NOT put 3 or 4 year old small children (or toddlers) in a daycare center. True, some daycare centers are better than others. But you get what you pay for and good ones are expensive....very expensive.
During her high school years my oldest daughter worked in a daycare to earn extra money. She finally had to quit because she could not deal with the separation anxiety of the small children.
Small children need their mother. Nothing takes the place of a mother.

I've had 2 children. My daughter, stayed with family until she was 5. It was difficult for her to learn to be with other children. She turned out fine, but... it was hard on her for a few months.
My son attended Day Care as soon as possible... he also turned out fine. Exceptional.
Either way, I see no long term advantage or disadvantage.
