No. I used to work at one of the major rental companies right out of college and many of the cars would miss required maintenance in order to "flip the car back out" for the next customer if there was nothing left on the lot.

This always seemed like a huge liability to me. The company had a policy to not do this, but with the pressure of sales, many managers would rent the car as opposed to getting the maintenance done.

Only expception was if there was a recall on the car. Anything with a recall went straight back to the shop.

Reminds me of the Top Gear episode where Jeremy Clarkson calls a rental Corolla the "Fastest Car in the World" in a race across New Zealand.

I bought a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 13,500 miles on it in 2006- a former rental car. 140,000 miles later, I've changed the brake pads, water pump, clock spring in steering wheel and the A/C currently needs some work. Other than that, just tires, batteries and oil. I'd buy another higher end car that was a former rental, but definitely not the white Ford Focus.

When I get rentals, I will stomp on it once or twice to see what it will do, but after that, it's just another car to me.

I worked for one too for several years and this did happen more times than I would have liked it to as a manager.

If you were to buy a rental this is a good way to think. Remember that many of the lower model cars are rented by many people that cannot afford a vehicle. The higher end cars are more likely corporate rentals or for a family.

The correlation is generally that the lower end cars would tend come back trashed in many ways you could not imagine to the extent that they need to be fully detailed to clean up. The higher end cars tend to be "respected" more by the renter.

Only rented lower end cars with debit cards. Needed a major credit card to rent high end vehicles. That weeds out some of the poor treatment.

The way I've always treated my rentals was that I've always driven them with care b/c I didn't want anything to happen to it and be liable for it. shite, I drove a rental car more carefully than my own vehicle.

My last used vehicle was a company car before I bought it. Pretty strange.

I bought a rental Prius. Still works. Kinda hard to dog a Prius though.

That being said I usually burn the tires off my rentals.
