Meh. Y'all can bitch about the details, but I think donating is a good thing.
The period in my life where I donated consistently was when my company would give us a half a day off of work after we gave blood. We were off in Friday's so the bloodmobile came on a Thursday. That made for a nice long arse weekend four times a year.

I don't think so. The executive director for the entire state made less than $100k, if I had to guess.
I was mid mgmt, and GTFO as soon as I got my graduate degree, and ran to the for profit world w the quickness.

$100k plus a car, all his insurance and gas. Also, anything he buys has a receipt turned in. Every meal, lawnmower for house, etc. My wife used to work for a 501c3 and she seent it. The whole board was disgusting with their piggishness.

I never give blood. Blood is something my body needs inside it, not to be giving it away

Hospitals actually is generally a good thing, if their salaries and expenses are in line with other similar sized commercial enterprises. It should result in better care, the VA system is free, and you get exactly what you paid for with a few exceptions.

I had an Economics professor at LSU that talked about this regularly. He said blood was sold like plasma until the 60's or 70's, but it stopped because most people didn't want blood from the poor or winos. I imagine if "donors" were paid for their blood there wouldn't be shortages.

I want to know more about this. I'm AB+, so my platelets can only be used by someone else who is AB+ (3.4% of Americans), but my plasma can be taken by anyone. I've never specifically donated plasma, only whole blood, so I'm wondering how I could donate where the plasma would actually benefit a patient who needed it.
