$2400 / month before taxes really doesn't seem like much to live on these days.
Considering rent payments, that is going to be a lot of ramen noodles in the diet.

Something else that young people don't do anymore is getting a second job. You get that 9 to 5 with all your benefits and the pay covers all of your basic necessities. Then you get that part time second job for fun money.
Younger people today wouldn't even think of such a thing!

Ummm most people that do Uber waiter doordash etc, do it as a secondary job. People still have second jobs they are just different than the ones back in the day.

Yep, and young people of every generation went through that phase of life where they ate a lot of ramen noodles, and other cheap shitty foods. But the most recent generation of young people think this is beneath them!
After you work your way up you can start having steaks and fine cigars and whatever the trendy new whiskey is. But you don't get that when you are young, unless you were born into a lot of money, but that's not who we are talking about right now.

I guarantee every single bar or restaurant in Houston is hiring and depending what job you are good at, make between $100 and $200 a night, say three days a week. Without spending money on gasoline or miles on the car. That's another $1200 a month in your pocket.

Yep. Lots of noodle dishes and pastas, bean and rice dishes, while not glamorous, can absolutely be accomplished on $80/wk for two people.

Looking through that grocery list, you would be very lean trying to live on that. There is no real protein for lunch/dinner besides deli meat

Not to mention that Uber, Amazon Flex, and presumably others have vehicle requirements. Driving an old beater doesn't cut for a lot of side hustles.
ETA: and not to mention the unlimited data plan for a recently purchased smartphone.

Well I don't know what y'all do for a living, maybe sit behind a desk, I say that with respect by the way. I however, workout side doing physical labor for 10 hours a day. What you just listed wouldn't last me two days much less a whole week LOL. Certain people need a lot more calories than others. And I'm not a fatty not even close.

I know that Uber has become incredibly lax with their vehicle requirements and if you're doing Eats or Flex then it doesn't matter what you drive.

$15 has been poverty wage for a while now. Cost of living has increased dramatically over the past two to three decades meanwhile the minimum wage has hardly increased. When that happens there’s bound to be massive problems
Posted on 5/22/22 at 3:59 pm to deeprig9
Young people still get multiple jobs that’s a dumb statement spoken by someone out of touch with any generation after him

Minimum wage doesn't mean shite.

15/hr in 2022 is $31,200. So you made $9,800 more a year. Even by today's numbers a roughly $10K salary difference is pretty solid. But let's look at it a little deeper.
According to MN Fed.org, $1 in 1984 has the buying power as $2.61 cents in 2021. And since 2021, inflation has skyrocketed.
But even as of last year...
If we took your salary of $41k an year and adjusted it for the MN Fed inflation data $1(1984) = $2.61(2021), your $41k salary has the same amount of buying power as $107K. That $9,800 extra ($41k - $31.2k) is the same as $25.5k in 2021. That's 81% of the salary you are in here saying is acceptable.
So to wrap it all up and put it in plain language for you, your "shitty" salary that you said you "made it on"... Would be like someone who make $107K in New York last year saying they barely making it.
And you're out of touch arse is in this thread bitching at someone complaining about making $31K a year, and somehow think your experience is very similar to their current one.
was kind of bouncing back and forth responding to a couple of people, what I said was, according to google, $1500 in 1984(which is what I started out at in NYC in 1984, is equivalent to about $4100 today, it was poverty level, certainly for my qualifications but I knew there was great potential in the job/career, wasn't really bitching, putting anyone down, just discussin', and pointing out that you have to play the cards you're dealt, that's all
