Nobody can live off 31k right now, much less 10 years ago. Average rent in Houston is like $1500 a month. $500 a week after taxes literally covers rent and nothing else.
It’s not $1500 for a 1 bedroom, if you have a bigger place then you should be earning a lot or have a roomate. Plenty of people have roommates.
Everyone wants a flashy car and to live by themselves now and then complain about their finances. Do like everyone else did up until 2015 and drive a beater and live with roommates or get married. Sorry not sorry.

Adequate inventory is years away. Housing prices more than likely will stabilize but highly doubtful they will go down, especially in top tier markets

What does a 1 bedroom rental in a non dangerous neighborhood cost in Houston? It can’t be much less than 1500

This is true. Pretty much how I got through college and the few years after college.

Where are these beaters? The used car market is insane too
The local dealership is attempting to buy my girlfriends Dodge Charger 2012 base model at 15k+

People keep saying this, but houses keep getting bought over asking. Inflation and rates will slow down the prices, but we just don't have enough houses in the market right now, and that's not something that gets fixed overnight. By the time the houses are built, overall inflation is going to keep the markets from crashing.
Real estate is very localized so if you are in a hot market perhaps your situation will be different but the fact of the matter is that far fewer people will be able to afford homes when mortgage rates are 7.5%

A decent complex in the actual city will cost north of $1500. There are some older complexes that charge less but you might have your neighbors’ weed smell encroach into your unit or have to deal with your car being broken into.

I would think entitled would be telling someone they need to work harder and longer just to make far less then what they made themselves. That seems entitled….
Boomers have many awful traits but this is probably the worst. The lack of self awareness in being so entitled yet labeling everyone else as such.

I definitely feel for people wanting to become homeowners, it sucks. Some areas are beyond reasonable.
Rising interest rates will eat up anything lower prices save.

quote:Charlotte is an interesting market. There are enclaves where pricing has run through the roof, and others (nice neighborhoods) where there has been far less escalation. If you're careful, you can still probably do okay pricewise.
I'm forced to move to another part of the country, Charlotte. I'm going to do what all the Californians are doing in Denver to Charlotte, overpay for a house knowing that just baseline inflation at this point will mean it's better than renting.
Funny aside, Denver (NC) is a town on Lake Norman about 30min north of CLT

I live about 7 miles south of Denver proper, and my single bedroom with basically zero amenities is 1.4k a month. In Denver, 1.9k is probably as cheap as you'll find.

Yep we are looking NE and NW (Mt. Holly and Newell). We just rented a house for a year so we're hoping to catch it just right where the interest rates knock a little bit off.

Medical benefits aren’t super exciting when you can’t afford to see a doctor even with them.
A visit to your primary care doc is covered 100% Urgent care is a $25 copay. That's it. All lab tests are covered 100%. Anything preventative is covered 100%. Deductible is $1500 a year. Coinsurance is 10% until deductible is met. Pretty decent insurance for $75 a pay period

Your stinking generation brought all this pain on yourselves with your woke mentalities. And now that you are reaping what you’ve sown, you want to cry about it.

Denver has been an expensive real estate market for 40 years.

In my entire life, there was only one brief stint where I lived alone without a roommate in a ghetto apartment. 99% of the time I had roommates, sometimes multiple roommates.
Kids these days just don't do roommates anymore, I think it is weird. The mill's and gen-z's in my extended family and ones I know through work, all live alone (except the married ones).

Nah, I've followed your posts about the housing struggle there. You have legit issues. I'd definitely try to relocate, Denver is so out of whack.

While I agree, there are problems if manager level CPAs can't buy non-fixer upper houses within 15 minutes of downtown.

Or, just pay rent and get nothing when you leave.
But you would just prefer to complain.
