First time pet owner. Don’t want to buy anything unnecessarily nice but I also don’t want to buy complete crap. Does anyone know if Costco has quality pet food?

Not sure, I’ve never really thought to buy dog food from Costco.. not sure why since i buy everything else there.

Not sure exactly where you are, but for our dogs we usually find high quality pet food in the NOLA area at Jefferson Feed, they have several locations and their prices are competitive.

Their Kirkland dog food is good. The dogs love it. Big red bag. I don’t even pay attention to the name.

Yes it’s great. We foster puppies and use their grain free in the blue bag.

We feed our personal dogs the weight control bag as well.

It used to be good, seems quality control went into the shitter. Last 2 bags I bought smelled like nothing that resembled dog food, more like chemicals. Dog's stopped eating it. I've been experimenting ever since.

Just rescued a Catahoula puppy a few months back & we get the red bag Costco food. He seems to love it. Cleans his bowl out in about 30 seconds. Then again he eats mulch, sticks, and his own poop, so I think he would eat anything we would put down for him.

Kirkland Brand standards state their product must be as good or better than the name brand product they are competing it. We are big fans of the Kirkland brand.

Go with food that’s in the fridge or wet dog food

Depends, how strong is your dogs liver? Do you really want to stress test it with Chinese chemical filler?

Dog food is one of the biggest rabbit holes you can go down. We feed Diamond which was recommended by our vet 20 years ago and it is cheap which is nice when you are feeding 230 pounds of active dogs. You used to only be able to get it at feed and seed stores but we get it from Chewy now, $33 for 50 pounds shipped for the type we feed. Their puppy formula is $37 for 40 pounds shipped from Chewy.

Never looked at Costco brand but I look into where it’s made, I buy food & treats made & sourced in US only
Also look for where it’s sourced, some say product of China, manufactured in US or globally sourced, made in US

Wife had a cup of coffee at an independent dog food company. Owner said Kirkland was best value on the market (what your dog gets for what you pay).

We’ve solely feed our goldens Kirkland. One is 13, the other one died at 8.

Who knows.

My two cats refuse to eat their cat food, so I did not want to take a chance with my dog.
