When I think of North Louisiana I just think of endless pine trees and not much else.

Only bad thing is they get weird about no alcohol sales on Sunday in some places and are a little too kid friendly. Otherwise it’s fine. Get over yourselves, insecure baws with your 150’s.

This attitude I think is what bothered me most about Monroe. I was blown away when a buffalo wild wings didn't sell any liqour on Sunday and didn't even serve beer till 12. I was even literally scolded for asking if there was a bar at a rivermarket. There had been previously, but the woman who ran it took the opportunity to let me know how she felt about someone needing a drink at her event.

Meanwhile over here in Shreveport everything is for sale everywhere on Sunday, and there even starting to loosen up and let certain parts of downtown be open container.

It's just nice to not be a heathen anymore lol

Yep, there are some impressive deer up here. I have been in Texas the last 25 years but now live in Funroe and some of the deer here would cost a small fortune on ranches in South TX. Fishing is great. I don't really bass fish but the White Perch and bream fishing is off the hook. Duck hunting is not what it was in the 80's and early 90's but still legit. I love it here and the good thing is Hackberry is just a slightly longer drive than it was from my house in Houston.

My family had a hunting camp a bit outside of St. Joe, right on the Tensas River. fricking amazing hunting. It was a sad, sad day when the federal government came through and bought up all the land from Chicago Mills and turned into into the Wildlife Reserve. What was worse is the police jury pulled out the barge we used to cross the river before we could get anything out (had to use boats and float the 3-wheelers), so only the things that would fit in them came out).

I grew up and spent most of my life in NELA, been in BR for the past decade.

The biggest difference is there's simply more to do in South La if you're not big into hunting and/or fishing. The traffic is far worse but "culcha" seems to be not as prevalent except for certain parts of Monroe and S-port/Bossier. Your smaller towns and less populated parishes are fairly quiet (lots of Bible Belters though).

How’s the Haughton area?

The problem with Haughton is half the really nice neighborhoods are right next to really shitty trailer parks, so it sort of defeats the purpose. Crime there is super low because most of the men who live there are either Bossier deputies or Haughton PD.
Basically, go with North Bossier or Benton.

God, Louisiana is worse than I remember.

Other than New Orleans (I have no desire to go back to Baton Rouge other than a football weekend once a year), there is nothing appealing about that state.

It's pretty shitty. The only places that I'd consider living are New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Lafayette (currently live in Lafayette). And, I realize that it sucks to live in the latter two, I just have family/friends there so it makes it tolerable.

Hmmmm. Not sure when you were in Monroe last, but they sell booze on Sunday there. I’m not sure about West Monroe (which is a different city altogether) but the B’Dubs definitely sells beer on Sunday and I think it’s in West Monroe.

Personally, the Ruston area is still the only holdout / stereotype / North Louisiana (pine trees, no booze, Bible thumping Protestants).

I’ve lived in just about every area of the State. They all have their pluses and minuses.

Where the hypothesis of the OP goes wrong is this: North LA should be divided into 3 distinct cultures:
1. Shreveport/Bossier over to almost Ruston and down to almost Natchitoches is its own little redneck world aka similar to East Texas.
2. Ruston to Rayville down to about Winnfield over to Sicily Island is another culture: rednecks, beer drinking/ hunting fishing etc. a little more laid back.
3. Everything else to the East is the Delta which is another culture unto itself.

Is any of it South La? No, but you can get beer, crawfish, just a lot less people and stuff to do.

The best thing about N. La. is there are nearly no people from S. La. here.

To be fair ruston is not the same place it was even three years ago. It's on the up and up as far as bars and restaurants, they even have a brewery now. It'll always be a small conservative town, but if you cant find something to do there it's really your fault.

I’m surprised Natchitoches hasn’t grown in popularity the last decade or so. People seem to like it’s charm, especially for retirees, but doesn’t seem to be doing much from an economic standpoint aside from tourism.

I think the b dubs was in west monroe which u suppose was the problem. But since there was none in Monroe, or any other sports bars we liked open in Monroe on Sunday that's all we had for NFL.

And the rivermarket where I was called out for my heathenism was def in Monroe lol

Yeah, the best jobs are at the university, Alliance, or the chicken plant.

Central Louisiana is Alexandria . . . Decent place to raise a family. But there hasn’t been any excitement around there since about 1863.

You obviously weren't at Raising Canes on Monday evening.
