Is being mechanically-inclined absolutely essential if you’re a man?

It seems to me that it is necessary in order for you to be an alpha male. Hardly any women are going to mess with things when they break. They just sit around and wait until they find a man that can do it for them.
What says the OT? Have any of you made it through life just fine without being super mechanically-inclined?
Of course, all OT’ers make six-figure salaries, so I know you probably just pay poor peasants to come handle all your home improvements and other mechanical problems.

If not, immediately move to beta status.

The quinessential OTer can do any manual task, usually 30% faster than those who do said task as a profession.
But they never do because that’s what money is for.
Example - the engine of my plane was having issues. Could I have fixed it myself? Sure, in 45 minutes flat. But that’s why Greg is on the payroll.

I don't think that you'll find many males under 30 who fit this description.

I think the most alpha thing one can do is to not worry about how manly everything is.

I have changed oil, alternators, ceiling fans, etc. Everybody should know basic mechanics. I love solving problems.

I think you have to have something that defines you as NOT being a woman.
Your trendy clothes won’t do it.
Your fancy haircut won’t do it.
Your perfectly cut beard won’t do it.
You need to be mechanically inclined or extremely athletic or an hiking/outdoorsman or a hunter/fisherman or military, etc.
You must be masculine in some capacity or you are by definition - a beta.

I mean any man should be able to:
Change a flat
Change his oil
Do basic electrical and plumbing work
That being said why deal with replacing a toilet yourself when you can just pay a plumber $200 to do it for you?

I think there are some basic things any guy that's a homeowner or has their own vehicle should be able to do definitely.
Change a flat
Routine car maintenance i.e. fluid levels, check air filters, tire pressure, change wiper blades.
Unclog a toilet or sink
Fix a toilet that won't flush
Install light fixtures
Change out a door knob
Those are just a few things I can think of that you should be able to do by yourself without having to call a professional and spend a lot of money on.

Agreed.
I don't think it's necessary to know how to re-do a whole bathroom. However, if your sink is leaking, you ought to be able to pinpoint where the leak is coming from and fix it.

Yeah, I don't hire anybody to do basic home repairs or maintenance. Same with my autos. Especially nowadays, when there is a fricking YouTube "how to" video for about anything. It either has to be tricky or a 2 man job or something specialized before I hire somebody.

I figured out how to fix everything in my teens and 20s out of necessity, now I can pay someone to do those things for me and I can concentrate on building things that interest me.

You know Greg?! Are you a turbine mechanic, too? Do you need a job because, frankly, Greg is great but I think he's stealing from me. I can see if I can squeeze a spot in for you.

Yupp, unfortunately I've been broke as shite the last few years (in and fresh out of college) i learned how to do just about anything short of pull the engine on my car.
There were some sketchy moments where I didn't think I was going to get everything back together

I’d say it’s criteria. My first job was turning wrenches. Then I went on to working on diesels throughout school. It helps being mechanically inclined in situations that can leave you stranded. I have a few acquaintances that have no idea how to change their oil, tires, etc.. One guy I know called 911 when he got a flat on the interstate. A cop showed up to help him. What a pussy That’s definitely not alpha

You need to be able to change your tire if you have a flat, but why do you need to be able to change your oil? It's like $40 and takes ten minutes.

Greg is a dick but he shows up on time and I’ve yet to crash my plane.
I appreciate the offer, but much like a decent house or a Kia, you can’t afford me.

Being able to change a flat or put in basic fluids or change a battery or things like that is a must. As far even an oil change, I used to do this when I had like a little ford ranger that I get up on my dads simple metal ramps he had for 30 years , but now with an suv and a tundra for our vehicles I will pay the guy down the at the shop 30 dollars to do it and I get a free car wash. It’s worth that just to not have to try to reach the oil filter and also depose of the waste.
Change a sink that is old and running is fine, also having to saw a pipe and put some clue with a coupling if the situation calls for immediate action. But I changed a toilet out once, and no sir I didn’t like it.
I have a cousin that drags pieces of cypress out of the river with his boat and makes a mantel out of it and took all the trees that blew down from Rita and took them to the saw mill and made boards and built half his house.
My mother would compare me to him wishing I could be more like him. I sort of wish I could do stuff like that but then remind myself that’s why I live in Houston and have a Mexican build my shite for me while I drink.

Basic things...yeah, a man should be able to do. If you don't, then you should be able to operate YouTube well enough to find out. If a job requires an expensive, very specific tool that I don't care enough to buy, then I'll hire someone. Or if the job is so big that it would take me the course of several weekends in a row, then I will hire someone for that as well.
