Not so sure about that, but it is definitely the tick capital of the world.

I suggest Petit Jean Mountain. You can stay in a motel room at the lodge, rent a cabin or yurt, or rv or tent camp. Lots of great hiking and views and not as touristy as hot springs. Been going since I was a kid and would love to buy a place while prices are still reasonable. Never seen a bear or mountain lion there fwiw.

I would be more afraid of the mountain lions than the black bears. They are ambush predators that will see you before you see them.

A lot more aggressive than the black bears who are timid and can be chased away.

Any mountain lions in Arkansas are transients. Black bears are found in all lower 48 states.

If you’ve never been, go see Blanchard Caverns

LINK

Take the cave tour and visit the recreation area. A great day trip especially in the heat of summer with that crystal clear 58 degree water.

Greer Ferry Lake near Heber Springs was also pretty awesome too. You could also go to the other side of the damn and the Little Red River.

Mountain View used to have great music shows in front of the court house on Friday and Saturday nights. Not sure if they still do or not, but I remember them as a 6-8 year old kid.

It’s a great place visit. Not sure I’d want to live there again.

Ozarks the series on Netflix was filmed in Georgia. Hard to tell it wasn’t in Arkansas, they look so much alike.

Nope.

They have been spotted all over the state.

The Arkansas game and fish commission said in 2009 that mountain lions didn't exist in Arkansas.

That was proven false.

As more have have been seen since that announcement, the more they are downplayed by the Arkansas game and fish commission.

I hiked the Eagle Rock Loop in November. Great area of the state. Easily the most beautiful outdoors area within reasonable driving distance of SELA.
