Got into it this year via my wife, probably more or less developed from our cabin fever from having a baby in January
I was pretty into it as a kid, Silver was my first game so I've gravitated towards the vintage cards of the first two generations. She goes more for the art collecting aspect, aiming to collect every card with illustrations from certain artists like Yuka Morii or Shinji Kanda.
I actually just pulled the Lugia and Charizard from the 30th set last week. Went to a card show yesterday and was told I should probably send the Lugia in for grading, it's centered pretty well. Not sure what I'd be getting into with the grading market, though. That's an entirely different beast.

There is some Pokemon vending machine at our grocery store and I only see grown arse incel men getting cards out

If you actually enjoy it, fine. I think it's shitty that hypebeast scalpers are camping out and buying out stores/vending machines meant for kids. Those guys are losers and need to get a real job

Wish id have kept my cards from 30 years ago when it started. Id have some extra cash and id def sell em.

Just for the love of god do not be the grown man waiting in Walmart or Target for them to put the stuff out on the shelves
I'm into it but not to that degree. I'll buy old commons for nostalgia purposes, or LSU players.

I play with my son - my son is running a deck right now that we are taking to a Regional this weekend. In his deck I have him running a $250 card, a $190 card, a $150 card, and about 9-10 cards that are worth anywhere from $50 to $80. The other kid's jaws just drop when my son pulls out his deck, the other parents are like "why are you letting your son play with those cards?!?!"
It's a card game, it's meant to be enjoyed, what is the point if you aren't enjoying them and just keeping them locked in a case?!
My son pulls chase cards like they are going out of style, he just pulled the SIR Magicarp last week from his prize pack he won at a local tournament.

That’s actually pretty much the perspective I’m looking for. You and your son are way deeper into the hobby than I am, especially on the actual playing side of it.
What I’m working on isn’t really about locking cards away and treating everything like an investment. I’m trying to build something that helps people understand the hobby better, figure out what they’re looking at, find decent deals, learn why certain cards/sets have value, and eventually tie more of the collecting and playing side together.
If you wouldn’t mind, I’d really like for you to take a look at the site sometime and tell me what you think is useful, what’s pointless, and what you’d add or change. I’d rather have somebody who actually plays and collects tear it apart a little than build it based on what I think people want

I hate people that are solely speculators and collectors. Kids can't even play the game because 50 year old dudes are waiting in line at Target to wipe out the shelves every Monday morning.
I get you are enjoying this with your kids, but don't make it about finding high value cards. Just enjoy the game, the art and completing sets. Don't make it about money.

Also, it's 2026. People know how to protect their cards with deck sleeves. Let them play with the cool shite and show it off!

hot wheels are like that, too
guys and employees raiding the stocking box at dollar tree
then right to ebay they go
makes it hard for kids to get the rare stuff

You seem like exactly the kind of person I’d like to get some honest feedback from since you’re actually involved in both the playing and collecting side of Pokémon.
I’m working on a Pokémon website/tool and I’d genuinely like to let you look through it and tell me what you think is useful, what’s missing, and what you’d change. I’m still trying to improve it, so I’d rather hear from somebody who actually knows the hobby than just guess at what people want.
I don’t know if there’s a way to private message on here, but if you’re comfortable with it, is there a way I can contact you outside of TD? No sales pitch or anything like that. I’d just really appreciate your opinion on what I’m building.

Even worse, scalpers have backdoor deals with workers at the sketchier places like Dollar General/Dollar Tree. I asked someone about pokemon cards at Dollar General and he said to be honest he hasn't seen them and would be surprised if they ever "made it off the truck into the store."
The scalpers have their own (paid) discord to follow around the shipping trucks and clear out the stores as soon as they stop. It's like a virgin mafia.

Id definitely like to see that.
My boys got me into it a few years ago right before the big boom. It’s a crazy hobby right now because kids can’t even get sets from stores anymore. And I avoid buying anything from scalpers.
Beckett 9.5 Umbreon SIR is my biggest slab. Looking to get the Moonbreon soon.

A gay soccer board joke in 2026. This site really has it all.

Why you say that? I'm just trying to help people learn about Pokemon and to find good deals...It's the first website I ever built so I am just trying to find people to test it or to help improve it... I don't have much money and can't afford to just have someone build something for me or pay for crazy advertising.. I have to start somewhere..
