Lets start with the boomers. They are at the end of their life spans, we’ve seen everything they were going to accomplish.

Lets talk about how fricked up they made this place.

Your incessant whining over the years has made that clear.

GenX here and most of us hate listening to both of you.

Gen X was born hating basically everything. That, combined with an apathy towards doing anything to change things, is your defining characteristic

My guess is making real food and delivering it to the city. I don't mean corn and soybean farmers.

1) I don’t live in a big city and don’t ever care to
2) No monger have any social media presence
3) Pay my loans every month

4) Not really sick of them. I’m actually quite thankful because this generation is one of the laziest in history. I’ll always have a job

Ugh are we really going to have a future generation full of people who employ critical thinking instead of going through life attributing everything to a magical sky guy having a plan for them?

Lunacy!

I dont even think its generational, in today's world it has become hip to be marginalized or have some type of ailment/issue. How many people out there want to tell you about their self diagnosed depression.

It is easier to fail and be coddled than it is to work hard and succeed

Yep, the victim mentality is fricking strong today. And like you said, it's not really generational. It's a society thing in today's culture. Just go look at some Boomer's Facebook page and they cannot wait to tell you about all their problems as soon as they get the chain email meme posted.

Sure, but let's look at some reasons, eh?

quote:

- Crying about working two jobs to get themselves through college and taking on student loans

Well, boomers won't retire, meaning people aren't progressing through the career ladder, meaning there are fewer open "good" jobs. And many jobs have been sent overseas. Plus, boomers pushed them that "you have to go to college to be successful" and signed off on 18 and 19 year olds taking on huge debt. What a boomer parenting failure.

quote:

Can't live in the big city without making any sacrifices like roommates

Boomers run the government, which has artificially kept interest rates low. Low interest rates mean higher costs for building housing, which leads to higher rents. Higher rents plus lower wages = need roommates. Prior generations had roommates in college, not while employed fill time.

quote:

mental illness skyrocketing thanks to social media and isolation due to covid-19 scare tactics

Oh, you mean the scare tactics pushed by the boomer politicians?

quote:

unwilling to learn a trade like plumbing or welding

Boomer parents and guidance counselors told kids that these jobs were beneath them. They told kids you have to go to an expensive four year college if you want to have any success in life.

quote:

unwilling to move to rural America where the jobs are

What jobs? Boomers sold their family farms to international corporations. Boomers in the rural areas are not exactly welcoming, especially if people look different than they do.

quote:

less religious than the previous generation

These people grew up watching priests arrested for diddling kids. They grew up watching all these religious "leaders" talk about family values, and then get found having affairs. They see other religious leaders talk about how we need to sacrifice 10 percent for God, then see these leaders get onto their private jets after leaving their $7 million house.

So yeah, I'm tired of their poor me attitude, but understand that the attitude is 100 percent the fault of the boomers, who are going to have the distinction of creating a worse future.

I was lucky and didn't have to work through college (did have a job for 2 summers), but I don't think you should have to work for two jobs and take out loans just to be able to afford to go to a public university.

Meh. A lot of people can't live in a small city without a roommate.
quote:

mental illness skyrocketing thanks to social media and isolation due to covid-19 scare tactics

I think mental illness was an issue long before social media. We're just getting better at talking about it and diagnosing it.
quote:

- unwilling to learn a trade like plumbing or welding

I guess you're right. I'm unwilling to do that.
quote:

unwilling to move to rural America where the jobs are

I don't know about the job thing, but I am unwilling to move to a more rural area.

Gave up religion for good about 10 years ago.

Lunacy!

I'm not religious at all anymore, but I do think it helps kids who grow up religious in ha ing a group of peers to lean on and pick up some of the same morals and values systems.

Once the kids reach adulthood, they can search within themselves as to what they choose to believe and not believe. But to boil religion down to:
quote:

attributing everything to a magical sky guy having a plan for them?
...is a dishonest take. I know many people who grew up in very strict, religious households who went on to become very successful in different science based fields that don't necessarily believe in God. But they have held onto their values that they learned as young people in church and used those values as a foundation for building their careers and building their families.

Yes, it's still totally possible to buy a house on one salary with two kids working at a factory.

It is 100% possible to own a similar house. The average family had kids sharing a room with bunk beds, one car and one TV.

That entire post is 100% accurate. Boomers created the shitshow that we currently have and then have the audacity to complain when other point out the problems they caused. Their hubris is amazing. They were all born on 3rd base (in terms of the economy and post war boom) and think they somehow hit a homerun.

And that doesn't even get into the issue of their success being a result of selling the country and their kids down the road in order to gobble up more of the pie themselves. The very success they are so proud of came from selling out their own kids and grandkids.

Not to mention when boomers graduated college, companies didn't really care what you majored in except for in highly specialized fields. All they looked for was a college degree, so you had plenty of people with humanities degrees landing good paying jobs. Those same humanities degrees they like to belittle millenials and gen z for pursuing. My uncle was hired by an insurance company to be an accountant when his degree was in sociology.

got no dog in this fight, I don't identify as any of these labeled generations but this unbridled disdain for boomers seems to me just another huge cop out, and placing the blame on them for any shortcomings/disappointments that young'ns have sort of reinforces the OP's thoughts on the subject
