I can understand a person wearing a mask if they are old and sick. But the young and healthy people are idiots to keep wearing them unless they are with an old and sick person. I am still seeing some idiots wearing them while on outdoor trails walking.

Why do people care what other people do? You don't know their situation.

Some people are having problems with allergies right now. The pollen is already ridiculous.

Some people have asthma and are trying to not contract other crud going around.

Some people have new grandbabies they would like to see and do not want to contaminate them.

Some people are immunocompromised.

There are a multitude of reasons why people want to mask up.

Why does this bother you? How about STFU and mind your own business?

It bothers me because it's an unhealthy change in mindset towards form over function.

How often did you see anyone wear masks for those reasons before covid?

Only time I ever saw anyone wear a mask before covid for respiratory reasons was when someone was doing lawn work.

There’s a guy that walks everyday in my neighborhood masked up and doesn’t come within 30’ of anyone.

For Wu Flu you are correct.

However, Droplet Precaution is what they are designed for. It's Flu/pneumonia season and the cloth masks do indeed work for that.

Never did hear a definitive transmission route or multiple routes for COVID. It may be airborne and/or contact or droplet all 3???

Like AIDS is bloodborne. Not gonna catch it coughing, sneezing, shaking hands, etc.. Do something involving blood to blood contact with an infected person though and you can get it (contact sports, rough sex, etc.).

I was out bowling a few weeks ago and there was a group of people next to us who looked like they were in high school. One of the girls was wearing a mask, she was the only one. It blew my mind.

ETA: It's her right to wear one and I would never try to ban someone from wearing one but it will never make any sense to me.

When a guy named Clark is posting and your reply begins with

quote:

Are you being serious?

The ONLY acceptable reply is "You serious, Clark?"

Yes.

IDK what’s most appropriate to think about those people. Mostly pity, but also a little bit of fear that they’d vote to force masks onto people if they could.

The mask protects others FROM you. It does NOT protect you from others.

This has been known and said since the beginning by many doctors.

There are plenty of people that are immuno-compromised that still need to protect themselves. I have students with severe asthma and other issues that still mask up. One of them caught CoVID recently and spend a few weeks in a hospital bed.

No, but does it hurt you if someone does post covid?

Someone really should do a psychological study on this phenomenon.

I've kinda wanted to.... at this stage in our understanding of human behavior there are surely markers that make one more susceptible to being swept up in a cult.....I'd imagine people still wearing masks display many of those markers

And wearing a mask has nothing to do with any of that.

I had been sick for a month from human metapneumovirus. As a result, my pantry was bare and I needed to go to the store. I wore a mask to keep from spreading it to anyone else because I was raised to be considerate of others.

This is wrong. It DOES protect self from others droplets. That's why surgeons wear them, to protect against spatter from the patient they are operating on. They are not wearing them in case of sneezing/coughing on the patient (They step away from the table and even go out to wash and re-mask if necessary. Even seen the circulating nurse pinch the top of a surgeons nose to stifle a sneeze upon request.)

If you ever witness a lumbar fusion you'd understand spatter. 5lb sledge hammers are used to break some patients L4-L5 the bone is so thick and strong. Sometimes compression or hairline fractures of those lower vertebrae get kinda nutso healing and have to be reformed surgically. The spine isn't designed to carry 300+ pounds 24/7/365 for any period of time much less the decades some of the fatasses insist upon.

I feel sorry for them. My dad wears a T shirt that says Faith over Fear. I think about that when I see the Masketeers.
